Dashboards query a warehouse or connected app using the identity and permissions configured for that connection. Motion animates material you provide or make available in Claude; its documentation does not describe a separate, Motion-specific data-access role. Your account plan, organization roles, source-side credentials, project settings, and artifact-sharing choices determine who can enable a feature, what data it can reach, and who can see the result.
Both features are beta products, so labels, availability, connectors, and administration controls can change. Treat dashboard queries, displayed business values, and exported Motion videos as potentially sensitive until you have checked the source permissions and the intended audience.

What Claude Dashboards and Motion do
Dashboards turn questions into SQL-backed views
Claude Dashboards converts a plain-language question into a dashboard. Claude writes and runs SQL against a connected data source, then presents charts. Every chart exposes the SQL query used and a data-refresh timestamp, allowing you to inspect what was counted and how current the result is. Anthropic’s help center describes the product precisely: “A dashboard is an artifact made from the Dashboards template.”

The help documentation names Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, and Snowflake as example warehouses, along with connected applications such as Salesforce. Availability depends on your account, authentication method, connector configuration, and source permissions. A named connector does not mean Claude can read every database, schema, table, object, or field in that service.
Motion creates editable animated explainers
Claude Motion turns a prompt and supplied material into an animation. Anthropic says Claude writes code that animates text, charts, shapes, and images, and that you can edit the resulting work and download an MP4. In Anthropic’s description, “Claude writes code that animates your text, charts, shapes, and images, so you can edit every detail, word, and number.”
Motion is currently documented as a beta feature on Team and Enterprise plans. The reviewed Motion documentation does not define a separate Motion-specific source-access role. In practice, its reachable information is governed by what you provide, the context and connections available to your Claude account, and the sharing controls applied to the resulting artifact.

Dashboards are in beta on paid Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. On Enterprise, an Owner must enable the feature and can restrict it to selected groups with custom roles. Motion is in beta on Team and Enterprise plans. Because these are beta features, an administrator should verify the current plan entitlement and organization setting before designing a workflow around them.
Anthropic reported more than 45 million Docs, decks, and designs created since those artifact types were introduced in an October 8, 2026 announcement. That company-reported figure does not measure Motion or Dashboards usage and should not be treated as an adoption or reliability statistic for either feature.

What “access” means in practice
No blanket company-wide access
Enabling Motion or Dashboards does not, by itself, grant Claude a universal view of a company’s systems. A dashboard can only query the source, identity, and scopes configured for its connection. If the connected warehouse account cannot read a schema, Claude’s query cannot legitimately retrieve that schema. If a Salesforce connection is limited to certain objects, those limits remain relevant to dashboard results.
Source-side authorization is therefore the first boundary. Claude’s feature permission answers “may this user create a dashboard or animation?” The connected service’s credentials answer “which records may the query read?” Those are separate decisions and should be reviewed separately.
Remote connectors and desktop extensions are different
Anthropic distinguishes remote web connectors from local desktop extensions. Remote connectors authenticate to cloud services and may be available across Claude surfaces. Desktop extensions run locally in Claude Desktop and can access local files, applications, or other system resources, subject to the permissions granted on that computer. A local extension is not equivalent to a remote warehouse connection, and neither should be assumed to have more access than its configured identity.
Anthropic advises reviewing OAuth permissions, installing extensions only from trusted sources, monitoring tool use, and auditing connected services. The practical rule is simple: identify the account or token used by each integration, then inspect that account’s scopes and role in the source system.
Who can enable features and manage data
Account roles control administrative capabilities, but the exact effective permission of a custom role depends on its group assignments. The current role guidance distinguishes the following responsibilities:

See the current roles and permissions guide for the account’s exact labels. A user who can create an artifact is not automatically authorized to administer the source data or change organization-wide sharing rules.
How a dashboard reaches data
Use this sequence before relying on a dashboard for a decision or distributing it to colleagues:
- Confirm the plan and feature switch. Check whether the account is Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise for Dashboards, or Team or Enterprise for Motion. On Enterprise, ask an Owner whether Dashboards is enabled and whether your group is included.
- Identify the exact source. Record whether the connection uses a warehouse such as BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, Snowflake, or Amazon Redshift, or an application such as Salesforce. Verify the connector is actually available in your account rather than relying on a product list.
- Identify the source identity. Determine which user, service account, OAuth grant, or integration token performs the query. Review that identity’s role, row-level security, object permissions, and environment (production, staging, or another workspace).
- Ask a narrow question first. Start with a non-sensitive table or a limited date range. Confirm that the returned records match what the source identity is meant to expose.
- Inspect every chart’s SQL. Open the query shown for each chart. Check selected fields, joins, filters, aggregation, and any date boundaries. SQL visibility helps you review logic; it does not replace source-side authorization.
- Check the refresh label. The dashboard states when its data was last refreshed. A correct query can still show stale values if the underlying refresh is delayed.
- Validate the displayed values. Compare a sample total or record count with the source system, especially after schema, permissions, or business-definition changes.
- Decide the audience before sharing. Treat the charts, SQL, and exported files as business data. Confirm whether viewers are specific invitees, your organization, or anyone holding a link.
Anthropic’s Dashboards guide explains the chart-query and refresh features. A visible query is a review aid, not proof that the result is complete, current, or appropriate for every viewer.
Artifact, project, and chat sharing are separate controls
Dashboard and Motion artifacts
Artifacts start private to their creator. Sharing is an explicit action. On consumer plans, an artifact link can be shared with anyone who has the link. On Team and Enterprise, external sharing depends on an Owner or Primary Owner enabling it under Organization settings > Artifacts. Before distributing a dashboard or Motion MP4, determine whether the link is limited to named people, available across the organization, or accessible to any link holder.
The Artifacts documentation describes the product-level sharing model. An exported MP4 can continue circulating after the original dashboard changes, so handle downloads as copies of the underlying information.

Projects
Project visibility is not the same as artifact visibility. On Team and Enterprise, a project can be private to invited people or public to the organization, depending on organization settings. In a public project, chats remain private unless someone manually shares them. A private project gives invited collaborators access to its knowledge and instructions according to their view or edit role, while chats still require separate sharing.
Use the controls described in Manage project visibility and sharing. Permission to use a project does not mean every conversation inside it is visible.

For Claude for Work Team and Enterprise, Anthropic describes the customer organization as the data controller and Anthropic as the processor acting on the customer’s instructions under the commercial agreement. Anthropic says it does not use commercial product data to train its models unless the customer opts into the Development Partner Program.
Your organization can control membership and may access or export user-submitted data. Anthropic states that a Primary Owner can request exports containing conversations, uploaded files, and usage patterns, and can remove a user’s account access. The official wording is direct: “Your organization’s designated Primary Owner manages your Work account and all associated data.”

Ask the Primary Owner or privacy team which policy applies to your account rather than assuming that a personal Claude setting governs a Work account. The relevant documentation is Who owns and manages the data of my team? and Does Anthropic Act as a Data Processor or Controller?.
Consumer-account privacy is different
Free, Pro, and Max accounts have their own model-improvement settings. Anthropic’s consumer guidance says users can choose whether conversations help improve Claude. When a user permits improvement, Anthropic says data is delinked from user IDs before review and access is limited to a small number of personnel involved in training. Incognito chats are not used for improvement, although conversations flagged by safety classifiers may still be used for trust-and-safety purposes.
These rules should not be merged with Work-account terms. A personal account is governed by the individual’s settings; a Work account is governed by the customer organization’s agreement and administration. Anthropic specifically advises caution with financial details, health records, credentials, and confidential documents. Review the current consumer sensitive-data guidance before uploading such material.
Administrator checklist before rollout
- Document which plans, groups, and roles may use Dashboards or Motion.
- Record each connected warehouse or application, its environment, and the identity or credentials used.
- Have the source owner verify database roles, row-level filters, OAuth scopes, and object-level permissions.
- Require dashboard creators to inspect SQL and refresh timestamps before sharing results.
- Define whether artifacts may be shared externally under Organization settings > Artifacts.
- Keep project visibility, chat sharing, and artifact sharing in separate policy sections.
- Tell employees who can request exports, audit logs, retention changes, or account removal.
- For consumer use, require review of model-improvement settings and prohibit secrets or highly sensitive personal data unless policy explicitly permits it.
- Audit connectors periodically, revoke unused OAuth grants, and monitor tool activity.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
“The feature can see everything because it is enabled.”
Correct this by checking the connected identity and its source-side scopes. Feature entitlement and data authorization are different layers.
“A dashboard chart is current because it loaded successfully.”
Read the chart’s refresh timestamp and compare a known value with the source. A successful render does not establish freshness.
“Making a project public shares every chat.”
Project visibility and chat sharing are separate. Review the project’s member role and share individual conversations deliberately.
“An internal artifact is safe to post externally.”
Check the organization’s artifact-sharing policy and the link audience first. Remove or mask sensitive values when the audience does not need them.
“Work and personal privacy settings are interchangeable.”
They are not. Ask the Work account’s Primary Owner about organizational controls; review model-improvement settings separately on a consumer account.
What is not established about these beta features
The official pages reviewed do not provide an independent study or named statistic about Motion or Dashboards privacy incidents, access accuracy, or user adoption. The 45-million artifact figure covers Docs, decks, and designs, not these two beta features. Treat product behavior, connector availability, and administration labels as subject to change, and verify the settings shown in your own account before connecting production data.
