Your subscription benefits usually remain available through the end of the current paid period, subject to your offer’s terms. After access expires—or if a game leaves the Game Pass library first—you can no longer play that title through the subscription. Canceling does not mean you own the games in the catalog.
What happens when you cancel Xbox Game Pass?
Cancellation and expiration are separate events. Turning off recurring billing or canceling generally prevents the next charge, while access continues until the end of the current service period. Microsoft’s Services Agreement describes the general rule: access ends at the end of the current service period, or, for periodic billing, at the end of the period in which you canceled. The terms attached to your particular offer, billing source, and region control.

To avoid the next charge, cancel or turn off recurring billing before your next billing date. Xbox directs subscribers to manage this through their Microsoft account subscriptions page or an Xbox console. The detailed support instructions were not available in the accessible page content, so check the options displayed on your account rather than relying on a specific button sequence.
Do you lose your Game Pass games?
Game Pass provides subscription access to catalog titles; it does not give you permanent ownership of every game. Xbox’s Game Pass page says access to library games lasts until the subscription is canceled or expires, or until an individual game leaves the library. That means a title can stop being playable through Game Pass before your paid period ends.

Once your subscription entitlement ends, you need another entitlement to play a Game Pass-only title, such as owning that game. The catalog and the terms for individual games vary; a subscription itself does not make a catalog game yours to keep.
Will your installed games and saves be deleted?
Canceling does not necessarily delete game files from your device. A Microsoft Community answer says installations and save data remain until you delete them, but this is community guidance rather than an accessible current official Xbox policy statement. Retained files do not grant permission to launch a game whose subscription access has ended.

Save behavior can differ by game, platform, and account system. Do not assume every save is cloud-backed or that progress will transfer in every case. If you regain access by buying the game or resubscribing while it remains in the catalog, your existing progress may be usable, but that is not established for every title or platform.

Will you get a refund?
Do not assume that canceling produces a prorated refund. Microsoft’s general Services Agreement says a cancellation may not result in a refund and that the specific offer’s terms apply. Refund eligibility can depend on region and purchase source, so check the cancellation or refund information in your Microsoft account or contact the seller that billed you.

Which other benefits will change?
The exact effects depend on your Game Pass tier, region, and billing offer. The available Xbox product information confirms library access and recurring-billing guidance, but does not establish a current, complete list of tier-specific benefits that disappear at cancellation. Check your account’s current plan details before assuming what happens to any particular feature, perk, or bundled service.
