Ray-Ban Meta glasses can capture photos and video hands-free, answer questions about what you see, translate, handle calls and messages, and play audio or manage quick tasks such as timers and reminders. What works depends on the glasses generation, your location, phone and app setup, and connected services.
1. Capture photos and video without holding your phone
Use voice or the glasses’ controls to take a photo or record a video while your hands are occupied. Ray-Ban lists a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, 3K Ultra HD video and a 100-degree field of view on its US feature page. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance or battery-test results. The Gen 2 product page also lists capture modes and storage information.

Hands-free capture is useful for documenting a walk, making a quick clip, or recording a moment when reaching for a phone would interrupt what you are doing. Be mindful of people nearby: a wearable camera does not remove the need to respect consent and local privacy rules.
2. Ask Meta AI about something in view
You can ask the glasses to describe a scene, provide information about a monument, translate visible text, or identify a plant. For example, Ray-Ban’s US FAQ suggests prompts such as “Hey Meta, describe what I’m seeing.”

This feature is not simply an on-device camera lookup. Ray-Ban says that when you ask about what you are looking at, the glasses send a photo to Meta’s cloud for AI processing and return an audio response. Ray-Ban also says photos processed with AI are stored and used to improve Meta products and train Meta AI with help from trained reviewers. Consider that data handling before asking about sensitive documents, private spaces, or people.
3. Translate text or conversation
Ray-Ban lists live translation as a feature and says transcripts can be viewed in the companion app. This can help when you encounter a sign or need translation during a conversation, without repeatedly taking out your phone. Its US feature page does not list supported languages, and availability can vary by market; check the current local documentation rather than assuming a specific language pair is supported.

4. Make calls, send messages, and share your view
The glasses support calls and messages through compatible connected services. Ray-Ban also documents sharing the glasses’ camera view during a Messenger or WhatsApp video call. The exact options depend on the connected provider, app settings, and regional availability. Ray-Ban’s US Gen 2 product information names services including Messenger, WhatsApp, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, but support for one service does not mean every feature works identically across them.

Open-ear audio lets you listen to supported music services while remaining more aware of surrounding sound than with sealed headphones. Voice and touch controls are available for supported services. You can also use voice reminders and timers; these are handy for a short task or a reminder you do not want to type into your phone.

Ray-Ban’s Canada FAQ specifies up to three active timers, each up to 24 hours, and up to three active reminders scheduled as far as three years ahead. Those limits are from the Canadian FAQ, not a promise of identical support in every country. Bluetooth, notifications, and voice controls are required; check the FAQ for your market.

Ray-Ban’s US product page lists the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia as purchase markets, with select markets also served through Meta. Markets and feature availability can change; a product being sold in a country does not guarantee every AI, translation, calling, or provider feature is available there.
