The report also attributed workflow planning, document retrieval and internal-chat access to people familiar with the tool. Google has not published a product specification or confirmed that the tool is available to the public.
What tasks can Google Agent Smith handle?
Business Insider reported on March 30, 2026 that employees used Agent Smith for coding. People familiar with the tool told the publication that it could plan and execute a larger portion of a workflow autonomously than earlier coding assistants. They also described it as able to retrieve certain documents using employee profiles and to be accessed through an internal chat platform. These are reported capabilities, not specifications published by Google. Business Insider’s March 30 report

The examples below illustrate what a capable coding or workplace agent might do; they are not confirmed Agent Smith features. Each depends on the agent having appropriate access and a person checking consequential work.
#1 Best Overall
Prepare a proposed code change
A coding agent might inspect an assigned codebase, make a proposed change and explain what it changed. It would need authorized access to the relevant repository and development environment. A developer should review the code, run suitable tests and approve any merge or deployment rather than treating the proposal as verified.
Gather relevant workplace documents
An agent might find and organize documents needed for a task if it has authorized access to the relevant systems and the user’s permissions. A person should confirm that the documents are relevant and that the agent has not surfaced material the user should not access. The reporting about Agent Smith mentions document retrieval, but does not specify its permission model or safeguards.
Break a goal into steps and report progress
A workflow agent might turn an assigned objective into smaller actions, work through steps asynchronously and send progress updates. That would require access to the systems involved and clear limits on what it may change. A person should review the plan and approve consequential actions; the reporting does not establish that Agent Smith offers these controls.

Is Agent Smith publicly available?
The March 2026 coverage described internal Google use. An unnamed Google spokesperson told Business Insider there was “nothing concrete to report right now.” India Today rendered the response as: “We are always experimenting with new ways to build agents that solve real-world problems for people and businesses, but we don’t have anything to share right now.” Business Insider’s report and India Today’s March 27 account

Google’s May 19, 2026 I/O announcements discussed Antigravity advancements and other agent experiences, but did not identify them as Agent Smith. Google separately describes Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform as a platform for building, orchestrating, governing and optimizing agents; it is a distinct offering, not evidence that Agent Smith is available or the same product. On the cited evidence, public access to Agent Smith is not established. The reporting does not provide a sign-up route, public interface, pricing or access policy.

For an agent acting across code or workplace systems, task scope alone is not enough to judge whether it is appropriate to use. The available Agent Smith reporting does not answer these operational questions:
- Which systems and data it can access, and how permissions are enforced.
- How reliable its outputs are across different tasks.
- When human approval is required, particularly before changes or other consequential actions.
- Whether its actions can be audited and what data-handling safeguards apply.
Until Google publishes a product description or access policy, these points should be treated as unknown rather than assumed capabilities.
