Suddenlink did not use one cable-box model everywhere. Altice USA documented three equipment paths: a conventional set-top DVR, a TiVo HD/DVR converter used with TiVo Mini devices, and Altice One, an integrated TV, modem and Wi-Fi hub. Which one was available depended on the service market. If you are identifying a box or considering a replacement, check its label and menus, then confirm activation and compatibility with the provider serving your address.
Which cable boxes did Suddenlink use?
Altice USA’s 2018 prospectus described different equipment options in different Suddenlink markets, rather than a single company-wide model. The options included standard set-top DVR service and a TiVo HD/DVR converter with TiVo Mini devices. Altice One was a later integrated system offered to Suddenlink customers as well as Optimum customers. The company’s 2021 filing continued to describe the TiVo equipment path.

How to identify your Suddenlink box
- Check the label: Look for the manufacturer and model number on the device, usually on its underside or rear panel.
- Look at the menus and remote: TiVo branding or TiVo menus point toward the TiVo platform; Altice One branding points toward the integrated hub. A conventional set-top DVR may use provider-specific menus.
- Check what else the device does: Altice One combines television equipment with a cable modem and wireless router. A conventional DVR or TiVo converter is a TV device and does not replace a separate modem and router.
- Confirm with the provider: Give support the model number and ask whether the equipment can be activated on your account and in your service area.
The three documented equipment paths
Standard digital set-top DVR
Altice USA’s 2018 prospectus says Suddenlink offered set-top box DVR service in some markets. These DVRs let viewers record programs and pause or rewind live television. The filing does not identify one standard model for all Suddenlink customers, so the box’s make and model—and local provider support—matter when identifying a specific unit.

TiVo HD/DVR converter with TiVo Mini
In markets where the TiVo option was offered, the TiVo HD/DVR converter served as the host DVR. TiVo Mini devices extended viewing to additional televisions and could access and play recordings from the household’s TiVo setup. Altice USA’s 2018 prospectus names this arrangement, and its 2021 Form 10-K repeats the equipment path.
The 2021 filing also says TiVo Stream could deliver live and recorded programming to Android and iOS devices for current TiVo DVR customers. That description does not establish that the service remains available for every account today.

If you are searching for an accessory, TiVo Mini is the specific multi-room device named in Altice USA’s Suddenlink disclosure. Do not assume a Mini or used TiVo DVR will work simply because it is listed for Suddenlink historically: provider authorization and local compatibility are essential.

Introduced in the fourth quarter of 2017, Altice One combined a set-top box, cable modem and wireless router in one device. Altice described it as supporting digital TV, streaming apps, 4K video and Cloud DVR, with additional televisions connected through Altice One Minis. Its November 19, 2018 announcement said the system was available to Optimum and Suddenlink customers and replaced the traditional cable box, modem and router.
Altice One is therefore a different setup from a standalone DVR or TiVo converter. Its Cloud DVR is not the same recording arrangement as recordings stored on a conventional set-top DVR or TiVo host DVR.
How the systems differ
| Equipment path | Recording approach | Viewing on additional TVs | Networking role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard set-top DVR | Set-top DVR service; recording is handled by the DVR box. | Not stated in the cited Altice USA disclosure for this equipment path. | Does not replace a separate modem or router, based on the equipment descriptions. |
| TiVo HD/DVR converter | TiVo host DVR. | TiVo Mini devices extend viewing and access to recordings. | Does not replace a separate modem or router, based on the equipment descriptions. |
| Altice One | Cloud DVR. | Altice One Minis pair additional televisions with the system. | Includes cable modem and wireless router functions. |
The company’s 2018 prospectus said Altice One Cloud DVR could record 15 television programs simultaneously. That figure describes the capability stated in the filing, not a current guarantee for every plan or market.
Rank #4
- Record 6 shows at once (6 tuners)
- Up to 150 HD / 1000 SD hours recording capacity (1TB)
- Works with digital cable or Verizon FIOS only
- Access TV and streaming content from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, VUDU and more without switching inputs
- Requires subscription to the TiVo service – as low as $12.50/month with annual plan
Can you replace a Suddenlink DVR or use your own TiVo?
Do not buy a replacement DVR, TiVo converter, Mini or CableCARD-related equipment on the assumption that it will activate. Provider authorization is required for provider DVR service and CableCARD/TiVo arrangements, and Suddenlink’s documented equipment options depended on market. First ask the provider serving your address whether it supports the exact model, the required service or card, and activation for your account.
TiVo’s support page lists Suddenlink contact information and directs customers to provider assistance for service questions: TiVo support. Availability and contact details can change, so verify current support through the provider as well.

What the historical figures tell you—and what they do not
Altice USA’s 2018 prospectus offers a dated snapshot of Suddenlink television use, not a present-day count or a description of every local lineup:
- As of December 31, 2017, approximately 81% of Suddenlink pay-television customers were digital pay-television customers.
- As of the same date, approximately 95% of those digital customers subscribed to HDTV services.
- Approximately 37% of Suddenlink pay-television customers used DVR services as of December 31, 2017.
These historical customer figures help explain why multiple digital-TV and DVR arrangements appear in the company’s disclosures. They do not identify the model installed in a household or show which equipment a provider will activate now.
