Broadcom’s VMware partner requirements determine which businesses can sell, host, or deliver services for particular VMware offerings; they do not, by themselves, determine a customer’s license rights. Before buying, renewing, or moving workloads, identify the partner route involved, confirm who is responsible for support and renewal, and check the product’s license terms.
Why the partner route matters
“Broadcom partner” is not one universal status. Broadcom’s public partner portal describes its Advantage Partner Program as covering routes to market, tier requirements, and partner benefits. It lists a separate Expert Advantage Partner Program for service and support partners. Those routes serve different roles, so a reseller, cloud service provider, and implementation partner should not be treated as interchangeable.
The portal does not expose the detailed Advantage Partner Program requirements publicly: its detail link redirects to partner login. As a result, current revenue, certification, deal-volume, or staffing thresholds cannot be stated reliably here. Ask for the current requirements for the exact partner type, product, and geography rather than relying on a generic claim about tier status. What changed for VMware cloud service providers
For the cloud service provider route specifically, TechRadar reported that the VCSP Advantage Partner Program ended on January 26, 2026, and that only select partners could join the replacement arrangement. This report does not establish a change to every reseller or services-partner route, nor does a provider’s previous participation alone confirm its current eligibility. Ask whether the provider is currently authorized to offer the specific VMware service in your geography and whether it can continue your contract. What customers should verify by route

Broadcom’s public portal distinguishes the Expert Advantage Partner Program from the Advantage Partner Program. A December 2, 2025 ChannelPro overview describes the program emphasis on partner capabilities and services such as design, implementation, optimization, and support; use that as context, not as a substitute for the current program terms. Partner eligibility is separate from license portability
A partner’s authorization does not automatically establish that a customer can move a license to a hosted service. Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 Frequently Asked Questions, dated September 3, 2026, says eligible VCF and applicable add-on subscriptions may be ported to a certified cloud service when they were purchased after December 13, 2023 directly from Broadcom or an authorized reseller or distributor, and the customer is the licensee. The FAQ excludes Value-Added OEM licenses and licenses for which the provider is the licensee.

Before a hosted move, check the current certified cloud services list and the product-specific terms against your purchase date, channel, licensee, and subscription. These are conditions in Broadcom’s FAQ, not a blanket portability right for every VMware license. Read Broadcom’s VCF 9.1 FAQ.

Broadcom says partner not-for-resale (NFR) licenses are for partner testing, demonstrations, training, and development—not customer production. Customers cannot request, receive, or view these partner NFR licenses. A customer proof of concept follows a separate, partner-initiated request process, so ask for that route when evaluating a product rather than accepting an NFR entitlement as a customer license. Broadcom’s NFR license information explains the distinction.

A practical checklist before signing
- Ask the seller or provider to identify its exact Broadcom partner route and confirm current authorization for your product or hosted service in your geography.
- Get renewal ownership, support responsibility, and escalation contacts in writing, including what happens if the partner relationship changes.
- For a hosted move, verify the current certified cloud service and your licensee, purchase channel, purchase date, and product eligibility against Broadcom’s current terms.
- Do not use a partner NFR key for production; request the customer proof-of-concept process if you need an evaluation.
- Request the current requirement document for the specific partner category. Public portal material does not state the detailed qualification thresholds.
