Find them at Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. The available options and labels can vary by iOS version and device setup.
What do iPhone Restrictions do?
Apple describes the feature this way: “You can restrict access to apps, features, and websites, in addition to iTunes and App Store purchases.” In practice, you can use it to set boundaries on a device you use yourself or, with family controls, manage settings for a child.

Depending on the iPhone and software version, controls can cover app installation and deletion, in-app purchases, age-rated apps and media, built-in apps or features, website access, privacy permissions, and some changes to device settings. The controls are configurable; enabling Content & Privacy Restrictions does not mean every limit is automatically applied.
Where are Restrictions on iPhone?
- Open Settings.
- Tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions to access and configure the available limits.

What can you restrict?
Apps, downloads, and purchases
Screen Time can limit whether apps may be installed or deleted and whether in-app purchases are allowed. These are separate from purchase authorization: depending on the account and setup, you can also use password requirements or a parent approval flow such as Ask to Buy for eligible child accounts. A purchase restriction blocks a category of activity; an approval flow asks a parent to review a request. Apple explains how to turn off in-app purchases using Screen Time.

- Limit Adult Websites: limits access to adult websites; on iPhone, you can also add specific addresses to a Never Allow list.
- Only Approved Websites: limits browsing to sites you approve.

Content ratings and built-in features
Restrictions can limit access according to age ratings for apps and media, and can control access to some built-in apps or features. Turning off access to a built-in app or feature temporarily hides it from the Home Screen; it does not delete it. Allow it again in Screen Time to make it available again.

Privacy and setting changes
Some controls govern whether apps can request access to privacy-sensitive information, such as camera data, and whether certain settings can be changed. The specific categories available depend on the device and software version.
Managing a child’s iPhone is different from setting limits on your own
If the child’s account is part of Family Sharing, the family organizer or a designated parent or guardian can manage Screen Time and parental controls for that child. Apple documents controls for content, app use, purchases, communication, and web access in this family setup. Start from Screen Time or Family settings, select the child, and choose the control you want to configure; the precise path and labels can vary by iOS version.

Apple says Communication Safety and web-content limits are on by default when setting up child accounts under 18, with age-related variation by country or region. Check the settings on the child’s account rather than assuming the same defaults apply everywhere. See Apple’s guides to setting up Screen Time for a child and parental controls with Family Sharing.
Choose a restriction based on what you need to prevent

Why a restriction or menu may look different
- iOS version: Apple’s guides cover different software versions, and labels or available categories can change.
- Device setup: A setting on your own iPhone is not always presented the same way as a child’s settings managed through Family Sharing.
- Region and age: Some child-account defaults vary by country or region and by age.
- Strictness: Web and app limits can block material or access a user needs, so choose a mode that fits the intended boundary.
Apple’s support pages describe how to configure these controls; they do not establish an independent effectiveness measure for them.
