A neocloud is a cloud provider focused on GPU computing and AI workloads, particularly model training and inference. Its distinction from AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud is specialization—not exclusive access to GPUs: all three hyperscalers offer GPU instances or virtual machines, alongside a much broader cloud platform.
What is a neocloud?
“Neocloud” is a label for providers built around accelerated computing and AI rather than general-purpose enterprise applications. Microsoft for Startups uses the term this way and identifies CoreWeave, Crusoe, Lambda and Nebius as examples. The label is useful shorthand, not an industry-wide certification or a fixed list of qualifying companies.

Some neocloud offerings provide GPU clusters as bare metal, with high-speed connections within GPU servers and networking between nodes. That setup can suit distributed AI training, where many accelerators need to work together. It also means customers may have to handle more of the infrastructure work themselves.
How does a neocloud differ from a hyperscaler?
The main difference is depth versus breadth. A neocloud concentrates on GPU infrastructure and AI workloads. AWS, Azure and Google Cloud sell GPU capacity too, but also offer broad suites of services such as storage, managed databases, identity, security tools, compliance offerings and global regions.

| Dimension | Neocloud | AWS, Azure and Google Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Provider focus | GPU compute and AI workloads | GPU compute as part of a broad cloud platform |
| GPU availability | Specialized GPU offerings; the specific models and regions vary by provider | Documented GPU instances or VMs; offerings vary by service and region |
| Platform scope | May center on compute, storage and AI-oriented services | Includes GPU capacity alongside a wider range of cloud services |
| Operations | Bare-metal access may leave customers more responsibility for scheduling, maintenance and workload operations | May offer a wider choice of managed services; the level of management depends on the product |
These are differences in emphasis, not guarantees about any individual provider. A neocloud is not automatically faster, cheaper or easier to use. Microsoft’s guide says neoclouds can offer faster access and lower raw GPU-hour prices for AI-specific work, but that is a general comparison, not a live price survey or a promise for a particular region, GPU or contract.
Examples of neocloud providers and hyperscaler GPUs
NVIDIA’s partner directory describes Crusoe Cloud as an AI cloud, Lambda as an AI developer cloud with hosted GPUs and managed inference options, and Nebius as a full-stack AI cloud offering compute, storage and managed services. NVIDIA’s May 18, 2025 announcement for DGX Cloud Lepton also named CoreWeave, Crusoe, Lambda and Nebius among GPU cloud providers participating in its announced ecosystem. These are provider descriptions and partnership announcements, not independent performance comparisons.

- 【Expandable Storage】This Mini Computer has pre-installed 32GB DDR5-5200MT/s RAM and 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 SSD. However, you could expand the DDR5 RAM up to 64GB and 2TB for the SSD. There is another M.2 2280 PCIe4.0 slot available for expanding the storage. Without worrying about lack of capacity, you can run software smoothly, watch and storage large-scale movies, photos without any stress.
The hyperscalers also publish GPU products. AWS’s accelerated-computing page lists EC2 P5 instances with NVIDIA H100 or H200 configurations and P6 instances using Blackwell-family GPUs. Google’s Compute Engine GPU page lists multiple GPU types and flexible machine configurations. Azure documentation lists GPU-optimized VM families, including ND H100 and H200 series. Product families, prices and regional availability can change; check the current SKU and region before making a plan.
What to compare before choosing a GPU cloud
Compare providers against the workload you actually need to run. A training cluster, an inference endpoint and an application that happens to use a GPU can have different requirements. Evaluate the whole service and operating cost, not just the advertised hourly accelerator price.

- PCIe 5.0 Support: PCI Express 5.0 x16 interface for maximum bandwidth with the latest workstation platforms.
- Workload and scale: Identify whether you need training, inference or application hosting; how many GPUs you need; and whether the workload can scale across nodes.
- Hardware and networking: Check the specific GPU model, memory, cluster size, interconnect and network performance relevant to your software and workload.
- Capacity and location: Confirm availability in the required region and how soon the provider can supply the capacity you need.
- Total cost: Compare hourly or committed compute pricing alongside storage, data transfer, network and support costs. For multi-cloud deployments, include data movement and egress charges.
- Managed services and operations: Establish who handles job scheduling, failed nodes, driver and CUDA version alignment, security patches, data movement and keeping expensive accelerators busy.
- Production and enterprise fit: Check security, compliance, support, reliability, identity integration and the other services your application needs.
- Portability and complexity: Account for the work of moving workloads between platforms, maintaining separate identity and security configurations, and operating infrastructure across providers.
A neocloud’s direct hardware access and AI-oriented networking may suit a team with the expertise to run large GPU jobs. A hyperscaler’s wider set of services may be more valuable when the GPU workload must fit into an existing production platform. Neither trade-off determines the winner on its own: the right choice depends on workload, available capacity, total cost and the team’s operating requirements.
