You choose who can see each one: your Close Friends or followers you follow back. Meta says only the audience you select can see the Instant, but its announcement does not say whether senders can see a named list of viewers.
What Instagram Instants are
Meta describes Instants as a way to share everyday, in-the-moment photos with friends. They are sent from Instagram’s Direct Messages area. You can add text, but you cannot edit an Instant. Recipients can react or reply, and the photo disappears after they view it.

Meta introduced the feature in its May 2026 announcement, “Apresentamos Instants: para compartilhar no momento”. The announcement says Instagram’s feature is globally available as of launch; availability can change, so check your app and region. Meta separately describes an Instants app as available in some countries.

Meta’s Portuguese announcement states: “Seus Instants só podem ser vistos pelas pessoas com quem você escolher compartilhá-los: seus Close Friends ou seguidores que você também segue.” In English: “Your Instants can only be seen by the people you choose to share them with: your Close Friends or followers you also follow.” This English sentence is a translation of Meta’s Portuguese wording.
Can you see who viewed an Instant?
Meta’s announcement does not specify whether the sender can see a named list of people who opened an Instant, or a view count. That detail is therefore not established by the announcement; do not assume either that a viewer list exists or that it does not.

- Wearable and take anywhere-able: As the Polaroid’s smallest instant camera, the Polaroid Go fits in almost every bag, tote, pocket and pack. So you can capture real life wherever, whenever.

- Built-in selfie mirror: Say cheese to yourself in the Polaroid Go’s reflective viewfinder – aka ‘selfie mirror’.
- Double-exposure and self-timer modes: Take photos so nice you shot them twice with double-exposure mode. Or set up the perfect self-portrait with the touch of the self timer button.
- Shoots pocketable Polaroid Go film and shoots 15 film packs with a single charge.
Privacy controls and teen protections
Meta says Instagram’s existing safety and privacy protections apply to Instants. It specifically names block, mute, and restrict as controls that can be used to limit Instants from particular people. These controls complement the audience choice; they do not turn an Instant into a public share.
Meta says Instants integrates with Teen Accounts and existing parental supervision. The announcement also identifies shared daily time limits, default quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. with notifications silenced, and safety and reporting tools. These are the protections described in the May 2026 announcement; settings and availability may depend on the account and current product implementation.

Do disappearing Instants guarantee confidentiality?
No such guarantee is established by Meta’s announcement. It describes audience selection and Instagram controls, and says photos disappear after recipients view them. It does not establish that a recipient cannot preserve or capture what they see by other means. Share only content you are comfortable sending to the selected audience.
