What Apple Intelligence and Siri Learn From Your Personal Data

Apple Intelligence and Siri may use app activity, preferences and other personal context. Whether information stays on your device or is sent to Apple depends on the request and your settings.

Apple Intelligence and Siri can use information about your activity, apps and preferences to tailor assistance. That does not automatically mean Apple receives all of it: some processing happens on your device, while some requests may be sent to Apple servers or Private Cloud Compute. What is processed, where it goes and whether it can be retained depend on the feature and your settings.

What information can Apple Intelligence and Siri use?

Apple says Apple Intelligence can use information already on your device—such as upcoming calendar events and apps you use often—to personalize assistance. Many models run on device; more demanding tasks may be routed through Private Cloud Compute (PCC). Apple’s Apple Intelligence overview describes this combination of local and cloud processing.

Siri Suggestions can draw on a wider range of local signals. Apple lists Safari browsing history, email, messages, images, notifications, contacts and information contributed by installed apps. Personalized speech recognition is also performed on device. Apple’s Siri, Dictation & Privacy notice says: “Siri Suggestions uses local, on-device processing to learn how you use your devices and apps in order to personalize your experience.”

Using context locally is different from sending that context to Apple. A suggestion can be personalized from information on your device without that information being uploaded as part of the suggestion process.

Where is a Siri or Apple Intelligence request processed?

Processing route What it means What Apple says about data
On device The request or personalization task is handled on the iPhone, iPad or Mac. Apple says many Apple Intelligence models run entirely on device, and personalized speech recognition and Siri Suggestions use on-device processing. See Siri, Dictation & Privacy.
Apple servers For Siri, the device’s Siri settings indicate whether speech is processed on device and not sent to servers. If not, Apple says audio is sent to and processed on Apple servers. Apple says some request context can also be sent, including contact names and relationships, preferred music or podcasts, device and accessory names, installed app names, and labels. It says this is associated with a random identifier generated by the device, not the Apple Account. See Siri, Dictation & Privacy.
Private Cloud Compute Apple Intelligence can use PCC for tasks that need more computation than the device can provide. Apple says request data sent to PCC is used to fulfill the request, is not stored and is not accessible to Apple. It says limited operational details—such as approximate request and response size, feature used and processing time—may be collected without request or response content. See Apple Intelligence & Privacy.

These routes are not interchangeable. The Siri audio setting describes whether Siri speech goes to Apple servers; it does not mean every Apple Intelligence feature follows the same path. Apple’s PCC statements are the company’s published privacy commitments, not an independent guarantee of every user-level outcome. Apple describes inspection mechanisms, including a transparency report for off-device requests processed through PCC; see its Private Cloud Compute security research document.

Does Apple store Siri recordings or use them to improve its AI?

Apple’s general Siri privacy notice is distinct from its optional Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence program. Apple says that if you opt in, Siri and Dictation interactions—including audio, transcripts and Siri’s response—may be stored and reviewed. Apple says it takes steps to remove personal details, while contextual information directly relevant to grading an answer may still be available to a reviewer.

That opt-in changes the retention and review picture; it should not be confused with PCC’s stated request-processing model. Apple describes PCC data as not stored, while the improvement notice says interactions may be stored and reviewed when the user enables the program. Check the setting on your device rather than assuming either behavior applies to every user.

How to check and change the relevant settings

Menu labels and paths can vary by operating-system version. On current Apple software, check these controls in Settings (or System Settings on Mac):

Rank #3
eKyro Smart Plug | Compatible with Alexa, Google Home Assistant, iPhone, Siri, Android, Power Tracking 15A 1800W, No Hub or Subscription Required, Apple Intelligence, Gemini (Non-Monitoring, 4)
  • 📊 CONTROL & MONITOR - Connect to WiFi and start monitoring your outlets energy (Voltage, Current/Amps and Wattage) with a *live view. Single-tap control to switch the outlet on or off from anywhere, at home or away.
  • 🧠 DEVICE AUTOMATION - Set switches to operate together, with offset timing or based on other conditions like other eKyro smart devices, weather, sunrise/set or on a specific schedule.
  • 🔈 WORKS WITH ALEXA, GOOGLE HOME, IPHONE, SIRI, ANDROID: Use any device including voice assistants, like Alexa, Ok Google, Siri, or even on smart watches.
  • ⏱️ SCHEDULING - Set the eKyro opener to turn off, on, or toggle its current position based on a daily schedule. More intricate scheduling and logic can be setup by using the device automations.
  • 🤝 SHARING - Seamlessly give and revoke control to any user for as long or short as needed. Share control of just one device, multiple devices or your entire "Home" of devices!
  1. Check Siri speech processing: Open Settings > Siri (the exact label may vary) and look for the notice indicating whether speech is processed on device and not sent to servers. Apple also points users to Siri and Keyboard settings for this processing indicator.
  2. Review the improvement choice: Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and find Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence. Review whether it is enabled and change it if you do not want to participate.
  3. Inspect available reporting: Look for the Apple Intelligence & PCC Report or relevant privacy report on supported software and devices. Apple says it provides a transparency report for off-device PCC requests; report availability and labels depend on software support.
  4. Turn off Siri and Dictation if you want to stop using them: Use the Siri and Keyboard settings controls for your device. Apple says turning off both Siri and Dictation deletes stored request transcripts used to personalize the experience.

Disabling Siri or Dictation is a broader usability trade-off than opting out of improvement: it stops those features from being available. The improvement control addresses participation in the program and should be checked separately.

What is changing in Siri’s use of personal context?

Apple’s June 2026 announcement described Siri capabilities that can understand personal context, search across apps and access up-to-date web information. In September 2026, Apple announced additional capabilities, including personalized Health guidance, and said the new health features would arrive later in 2026. Availability depends on software release, device, language and region, so an announcement should not be read as confirmation that a feature is already enabled on every device.
