An 8 kHz keyboard polling rate means the keyboard can send up to 8,000 reports to a computer per second. That works out to a nominal 0.125 milliseconds between reporting opportunities, compared with 1 millisecond at 1,000 Hz. It describes how often the keyboard reports—not the total time from pressing a key to seeing a response on screen.
What does keyboard polling rate measure?
Razer defines polling rate as “the frequency at which data is communicated from your device to your PC.” In keyboard terms, the figure describes how often the device can report its state to the computer. A hertz (Hz) is one event per second, so 8 kHz is 8,000 reports per second.

The interval is the reciprocal of the rate:
- 1,000 Hz: 1,000 reports per second, or a nominal 1 millisecond between reporting opportunities.
- 8,000 Hz: 8,000 reports per second, or a nominal 0.125 milliseconds between reporting opportunities.
Razer describes its 8,000 Hz HyperPolling rate as allowing up to eight times as many reports per second as 1,000 Hz, with a 0.125 ms interval. That is a comparison of report frequency, not a measurement of overall keyboard or game response time. Razer’s HyperPolling explanation

No—not in the sense of making every keystroke or the whole game respond eight times faster. The polling interval is only one part of the input path. A key press also involves switch actuation, the keyboard’s handling of the input, processing by the computer, the game’s input sampling, and display timing.

A higher report rate can shorten the nominal wait for the next reporting opportunity, assuming the keyboard is operating at that rate and the changed key state is ready to be sent. It does not mean the key-to-screen delay is 0.125 ms. Razer says its Huntsman V3 Pro 8KHz latency measurement runs from switch actuation until the signal reaches the host device’s USB port; that boundary does not include the entire path to an on-screen result. Will you notice the difference?
There is no basis in the cited manufacturer specifications and explanations for saying that every player will perceive a particular improvement from 8 kHz. The rate is a concrete specification; whether it makes a noticeable difference depends on the full system and the player. A higher number alone does not establish a guaranteed competitive advantage.

Also keep the claim specific to keyboard reporting. Polling-rate discussions about mouse cursor movement concern a different kind of input; they should not be treated as proof of how a keyboard’s higher report rate will feel.

Manufacturers identify several keyboards with an 8,000 Hz specification. These are examples of products carrying the rate, not independent test results or recommendations.

What should you compare before buying?
Consider the polling specification alongside the features that affect fit and use. Check the manufacturer’s latency measurement method so you know which part of the input path its figure covers, then compare:
- Switch type and actuation options
- Layout and connectivity
- Price and the keyboard’s other features
- How the stated polling rate fits your own setup and priorities
The cited manufacturer pages do not establish that 8 kHz alone warrants a price premium. Treat it as one specification among several, rather than a promise of a specific in-game result.
