Who is in charge at Albertsons now?
CEO Susan Morris remains the company’s chief executive. Meg Whitman was appointed to a newly created Executive Chair role on September 9, 2026. Albertsons says Whitman will lead the board and advise Morris and the senior leadership team on strategy and operations; the company has not announced that Whitman replaced Morris as CEO.

Kim Fennebresque, previously board chair, became Lead Independent Director. Whitman’s appointment increased the board from 10 to 11 members. The arrangement adds a senior board role focused on advising management while leaving day-to-day executive leadership with Morris.
What is changing in the boardroom?
Albertsons announced that Bill Boltz, Chris Drumgoole and Meg Ham will join the board effective October 14, 2026. That date is in the future as of October 4, so they should be described as incoming directors, not current members. Once the appointments take effect, the board is expected to grow from 11 to 14 members.

Albertsons has presented these appointments as a way to add relevant experience to board oversight. That signals the subjects the company wants represented in governance; it does not establish that the directors will change a particular policy or produce a specific business result.
What could the changes mean for strategy and operations?
Albertsons describes Whitman’s remit as helping Morris and the senior team sharpen long-term strategy, execute it, pursue profitable growth, consider how AI affects operating structure, and deliver a more consistent customer experience across stores and digital channels. These are company-stated aims, not verified outcomes or evidence of a new AI deployment.

- Jennifer Saenz became EVP and Chief Commercial Officer, overseeing pharmacy and ecommerce operations as well as digital experiences, marketing and loyalty, and Albertsons Media Collective.
- Anuj Dhanda’s technology and transformation remit expanded to include Data Science and Product Management.
- Mike Withers took on an expanded West operations role. Omer Gajial, previously EVP and Chief Merchandising & Digital Officer, was set to leave.
Albertsons said the 2025 structure supported its “Customers for Life” strategy. The announcements establish who was assigned which responsibilities and what the company said it intended; they do not establish store-level changes, workforce effects, savings, or improved performance. The practical test will be whether future company reporting shows execution and measurable results.

What does the CFO transition mean for shareholders?
Cody Perdue became Interim CFO effective September 30, 2026, succeeding Sharon McCollam, who announced plans to retire as President and CFO. Perdue retains oversight of treasury, investor relations and risk management. Albertsons says McCollam will advise through February 27, 2027, to support the transition, and that a search for a permanent CFO is underway.
That interim arrangement provides a defined period of continuity while the company searches for a permanent finance chief. For shareholders, the key governance questions are how the board oversees the transition and whether future filings or results indicate changes to financial plans. The appointment itself does not establish a change in forecasts, dividend or repurchase policy, valuation, or share-price performance.

What the announcements do—and do not—show
Taken together, the changes indicate an intended emphasis on strategic and technology oversight, customer experience, and continuity in finance leadership. They are governance and succession developments, not proof that Albertsons has delivered profitable growth or that shareholders have benefited.
To assess performance separately from appointments, shareholders can compare subsequent company filings and results with prior reporting. Albertsons’ fiscal-year filing provides historical financial context, but figures reported for earlier periods cannot demonstrate that appointments made in 2026 caused a later outcome. Any such conclusion requires evidence from results reported after the changes, not timing alone.
