Read-only means you can inspect and extract contents where supported, but should not expect to create or modify an archive in that format through Akizip. The Flathub listing is the clearest source for this distinction; the repository’s broader description of the bundled engine should not be treated as a promise that every engine format is writable in the app.
Inspecting archives and tracking operations
Akizip can display archive contents and metadata so you can check what is inside before extracting. Its project README and Flathub listing also describe background operations that report progress and can be cancelled. The README additionally lists a logs panel and a multilingual interface, with English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese translations identified there.

Installing Akizip on GNOME
The project recommends Flatpak, and Flathub lists the app under the ID top.akizip.akizip. Install it from the Flathub listing or through a Flatpak software manager configured to use Flathub. At the time the listing was checked on 2026-10-07, Flathub showed support for aarch64 and x86_64.

For developers considering a source build, the repository lists Meson, Ninja, GTK 4 development headers, libadwaita development headers, PyGObject, and gettext as prerequisites. Its README warns that the configured executable path, /app/bin/7zz, exists inside the Flatpak sandbox; running outside that environment requires placing a 7zz binary at that path or changing the configured constant. These are upstream build notes, not a verified step-by-step installation procedure.

What the current Flathub listing says
When accessed on 2026-10-07, Flathub identified Akizip as version 0.4.0 and said the listing had been updated two days earlier. The listed changes included multi-selection support, move-operation fixes, a fix for moving files into the current directory, a warning when creating an archive whose name begins with a dot, and a restriction on .. in move destination paths. Release details can change, so check the live Flathub entry for the version and update notes currently shown.
Flathub also showed 3,809 downloads per month on that access date. The page does not state how that figure is measured, so it should be understood as a listing metric—not a verified count of unique users or a durable popularity measure.

Licensing and security context
The project states that Akizip is free software licensed under GNU GPL version 3.0 or later. Its README describes the Flatpak as sandboxed by default with minimal permissions, but that description is not a security audit or a guarantee that every risk is eliminated. The sources cited here do not establish independent security testing, performance benchmarks, or a controlled comparison with other archive managers.
