A Web3 domain provider gives people a way to find, register, and manage blockchain-based names that can point to wallet addresses, content hashes, or other records. The provider may supply the website or API you use, but the name’s ownership and resolution rules can be handled by smart contracts and registries. A provider’s interface does not make a name universally usable: many Web3 names do not resolve like ordinary DNS domains in standard browsers.
What is a Web3 domain provider?
“Web3 domain provider” is a broad label for a service or organization that helps people search for, obtain, manage, or integrate with blockchain-based names. There is no single provider architecture: a provider may offer the user-facing tools, while contracts and registries govern how names are allocated, who controls them, and how records are resolved.

For example, the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) describes itself as a distributed, open naming system based on Ethereum. ENS names can map to machine-readable identifiers, including cryptocurrency addresses, content hashes, and metadata. (ENS: What is the Ethereum Name Service?)

How do the name, registry, and resolver fit together?
These terms describe different parts of a naming system. In ENS, a registrar contract sets allocation rules for names in a part of the namespace; the registry stores information about a name; and a resolver connects the name to records such as an address or content hash. The provider’s interface can make these actions easier to use, but it is not necessarily the authority that stores the ownership record.

- Top-Tier Security Chip, Bank-Grade Asset Protection: Equipped with an industry-leading Infineon CC EAL 6+ certified security chip, also certified by EMVCo, this chip is widely used in bank payment and identity verification systems. Your private keys are generated and stored entirely offline within the chip, ensuring they never touch the internet. This physically blocks remote hacker attacks and eliminates the risk of private key leakage, building an impregnable first line of defense for your digital assets.
- What You See Is What You Sign, Hardware Button Protection: Every transaction requires manual confirmation via physical buttons on the imKey Pro's clear display. The device intuitively shows key transaction details like the amount and address, ensuring the data hasn't been tampered with during transmission—truly achieving "What You See Is What You Sign." It also features secure PIN code protection and a self-destruct mechanism after multiple incorrect attempts (the private key is wiped after 5 consecutive wrong entries), effectively preventing brute-force attacks even if the device is lost.
- Comprehensive Multi-Chain Asset Support, Access the Web3 Ecosystem: Fully supports major mainnets and Layer 2 networks, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), LTC, ATOM, FIL, TRX and more. By adding custom RPCs, you can easily access all EVM-compatible chains like BSC, Polygon, and Avalanche. Furthermore, imKey Pro perfectly supports Layer 2 solutions such as zkSync and Arbitrum, as well as the display and storage of NFTs, meeting all your diverse on-chain needs.
- Cold & Hot Wallet Separation, A Seamless Experience: Utilizing Bluetooth 4.1 wireless technology, it pairs seamlessly with the imToken App on your mobile phone or browser extension wallets on your PC without needing any cables. It combines the ultimate security of a cold wallet (offline private key storage) with the convenience of a hot wallet (online interaction). When a transaction is needed, you sign it offline with your imKey, and the app broadcasts it to the chain. This guarantees asset security without sacrificing the fluidity of use.
- Extremely Thin and Light, A Portable Digital Vault: The device is smaller than a credit card, measuring just 2.3mm thick and weighing approximately 17g. Crafted with a zinc alloy body and a PC panel, it offers a premium feel and is extremely portable. The built-in 33mAh lithium-polymer battery provides a battery life of up to approximately four weeks on a single charge. The package includes the hardware wallet, a USB cable, and mnemonic cards, making it ready to use right out of the box—a secure and reliable gateway to the crypto world.
- Registrar: In ENS, a contract that allocates names under rules for a namespace.
- Registry: ENS’s core contract, which records the owner, resolver, and time-to-live (TTL) information for a name.
- Resolver: A contract that maps a name to a resource, such as a cryptocurrency address or content hash.
- Record: A value associated with a name; an ETH address is one common ENS record.
ENS also supports reverse resolution, which can associate a primary name with an Ethereum address, and lets owners create and configure subnames. Those capabilities depend on the system and its configuration; they are not guarantees that every wallet or app will display or accept a name. (ENS: The Registry; ENS terminology)
What can a Web3 domain name do?
A Web3 name can provide a memorable alternative to entering a long wallet address and can point to other supported records. ENS documents addresses, content hashes, metadata, and other identifiers. Unstoppable Domains’ developer glossary describes records including cryptocurrency addresses, chat IDs, and IPFS hashes. These examples describe available record types in those systems; they do not mean every wallet, application, or recipient supports every name or record. Will a Web3 domain work in a regular browser?
Not necessarily. A blockchain name is not automatically part of the conventional DNS system, so a name that works in a compatible wallet or app may not open in an ordinary browser. Unstoppable Domains’ terms state that its Web3 domains currently do not resolve like DNS domains and may require special browser plugins or network configurations. That is a provider-specific disclosure, not a universal description of every blockchain naming system. (Unstoppable Domains Terms of Use, last updated June 10, 2026.)

ENS documents importing eligible DNS names using DNSSEC, which allows an owner to prove control through signed records. This bridge does not make all Web3 names ordinary DNS domains or ensure they resolve everywhere DNS does. (ENS protocol overview; ENS terminology)

How is a Web3 domain provider different from a DNS registrar?
A conventional DNS registrar handles domain names in the DNS system. A Web3 domain service deals with names in a blockchain-based naming system. A company can offer both types of service, but that does not make the names interchangeable: its DNS-domain registration process and Web3-domain offering may have different rules and technical behavior.
For example, Unstoppable Domains’ support article describes a DNS-domain registration process with a default one-year registration and says the company is an ICANN-accredited registrar. Those statements concern its DNS-domain product; its terms separately describe Web3 domains and their resolution limits. Check which kind of name a service is offering before relying on browser compatibility or registration terms. - Namespace: Identify which naming system or registry controls the name and where that extension is recognized.
- Ownership and duration: Check whether the name is registered for a term, can expire, or follows a different claim model. ENS documentation describes registration and expiry information held by registrar contracts; Unstoppable Domains’ terms say its claimed-and-owned Web3 domains have no renewal fees. These are different systems’ terms, not a shared rule.
- Records and supported uses: Confirm that the name can point to the wallet addresses, content, or identity records you actually need, and that the destination app accepts them.
- Resolution compatibility: Check which wallets, apps, browsers, plugins, or network configurations can resolve the name.
- Interoperability: Unstoppable Domains’ terms disclose potential collisions with names on other blockchains, naming technologies, and DNS domains. Check how the relevant service handles conflicts; the disclosure does not quantify how often they occur.
- Costs: Check current registration, renewal, and transaction fees in the service’s own interface. Fees are not established as a reliable cross-provider comparison here.
Terms, pricing, and integrations can change, so rely on the current rules for the specific name type rather than assuming one provider’s model applies to others.
