The Westinghouse WHI955BD is a 90 cm, five-zone induction cooktop with a listed 880 × 490 mm benchtop cutout. Its 7.35 kW connected load and hardwired, 32 A maximum-current connection make electrical suitability a key check before buying. Feature-wise, it offers a bridge zone, an extra-large MaxiZone and BoilProtect, but that boil-detection feature is specified for stainless steel or enamelled pots containing water. Available public review evidence does not establish how it performs in independent testing.
What the WHI955BD offers
Westinghouse lists a black ceramic-glass surface, five induction cooking zones and touch-and-slide controls. The feature set includes PowerBoost, Pause, keep-warm, residual-heat warnings, a child safety lock, safety cut-off and a programmable 99-minute countdown timer. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent performance findings. See the Westinghouse WHI955BD product page.

BoilProtect has a defined use case
Westinghouse says BoilProtect detects rising bubbles and automatically reduces heat. The manufacturer specifies that it works with stainless steel or enamelled pots filled with water; when boiling is detected, the cooktop signals and lowers the setting to 5. It is not described as a general-purpose safeguard for every pot or cooking task. Details are on the Westinghouse induction cooktops feature page.

Bridge Zone can operate two induction zones separately or link them for larger or irregular cookware. MaxiZone is described as an extra-large zone for larger pans. Hob2Hood can switch on and adjust a compatible rangehood automatically, but compatibility is required; the cited manufacturer information does not identify specific compatible hood models. Check compatibility for the exact hood before treating this feature as part of your setup.

- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
How strong is the review evidence?
CHOICE has a model-specific listing, but its retrieved page reserves the expert rating, pros and cons for members. It showed a $2,299 price snapshot; that is not a verified current price and does not reveal CHOICE’s verdict. The public listing is available at CHOICE’s WHI955BD review page.
Westinghouse’s New Zealand product page displayed a 4.6-star rating from 145 reviews when retrieved. That is a manufacturer-site customer rating, not independent laboratory testing, and the displayed rating or review count may change. No hands-on or independent performance result is established here, so claims about boiling speed, noise, reliability, cleaning effort or value against competing models would be premature.

Who should consider this model?
- It may suit a renovation where a 90 cm cooktop is wanted and the benchtop can accommodate the specified 880 × 490 mm cutout.
- Check the electrical work first if replacing a different cooktop: the listed 7.35 kW load, hardwired connection and 32 A maximum current need assessment for the home.
- Its layout may help if you expect to use linked zones for larger cookware or value a larger pan zone, but confirm the actual zone arrangement in the current product documentation for your cookware.
- Do not buy on Hob2Hood alone without confirming that your rangehood is compatible.
- Look for accessible independent testing if comparative performance is central to your decision; the publicly available evidence described here does not settle that question.
