The Westinghouse WHI954BA is a 90 cm induction cooktop with five cooking zones and a hardwired connection rated at 10.2 kW. Its published specifications and installation requirements are clear enough to tell you whether it can fit your bench and electrical supply. What no accessible independent source provides is cooking-performance data. Nothing here establishes how quickly it boils water, how evenly it holds a simmer, or how it holds up over years of use.

Controls and features
Westinghouse lists five induction zones, front touch controls, a pause function, keep-warm, a programmable 99-minute countdown timer, child lock, a safety cut-off, residual-heat indicators and a sound-off setting. Two of these work in ways that are easy to misread:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Pause drops all operating zones to a keep-warm level rather than switching them off. Westinghouse’s product page puts it this way: “Just press the Pause icon on your cooktop and all operating zones will drop to a Keep Warm mode.”
- Timer switches a zone off when its countdown ends. It is set per zone, so it does not replace monitoring a pan that needs attention.
The product page also describes the cooktop as “almost twice as fast” and “almost twice as efficient.” These are promotional statements from the manufacturer. No independent test in the material reviewed confirms them for this model, so treat them as claims rather than results.

Installation and electrical requirements
The WHI954BA is hardwired, not plugged in, and Appliances Online states that a qualified electrician is required for installation. Before you buy, have a licensed electrician confirm three things:
- The existing circuit and supply can carry the 10.2 kW connected load.
- The cable and isolation arrangements meet local wiring rules.
- The cut-out and clearances in your bench match the figures in the table above, including the 46 mm height.
If your kitchen has an existing cooktop circuit, the electrician can compare its rating with the cooktop’s rating before any work begins. Do not treat this article as a substitute for that assessment.

Cookware and pan sizes
Induction only heats cookware that is made from magnetic material. Appliances Online states that cookware must be magnetic. A simple check is to hold a fridge magnet to the base of the pan: if it sticks firmly across the bottom, the pan should work. Aluminium, copper and most glass or ceramic cookware will not heat on an induction zone unless they have a magnetic base layer.

As a result, there is no independently verified claim in the material reviewed about boil speed, heat control, noise, reliability, ease of cleaning or cooking performance compared with other cooktops. If those points matter most to you, look for a current member or subscriber test, or ask a retailer whether the unit has a published performance test.
Availability and price
The only price in the material reviewed is $2,769, shown on CHOICE’s page for a model that CHOICE describes as discontinued. Westinghouse Australia still hosts specifications and downloads for the model, but a product page with downloads does not show that the cooktop is in stock. Check a current retailer listing for the exact model number, WHI954BA, and confirm the price, stock and warranty terms before you order.
