The De’Longhi La Specialista Maestro Cold Brew is a capable, feature-rich espresso machine for people who want to adjust their coffee workflow—not a compact, low-effort appliance. Its integrated grinder, assisted tamping and broad drink menu are paired with a Cold Extraction cycle that De’Longhi says makes a cold coffee in under five minutes. That cycle is not the same process as traditional long-steep cold brew, and the machine’s size, learning curve and cleaning demands are meaningful trade-offs.

What is the De’Longhi La Specialista Maestro Cold Brew?

It is a semi-automatic home coffee machine with an integrated grinder, Smart Tamping station, espresso brewing, milk preparation and a dedicated Cold Extraction mode. De’Longhi’s UK product page identifies the silver model as EC9885.M; its US support page uses EC9885M. Those are regional model identifiers, so check the exact SKU and local electrical specifications before buying.

The UK listing includes Espresso, Americano, Coffee, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato, Flat White, Cold Brew and Espresso Cool presets. It also lists a cool-touch steam wand. The menu and workflow make this more than an espresso-only machine, but the number of options comes with more settings and maintenance than a simpler coffee maker.

How does its under-five-minute “Cold Brew” work?

De’Longhi calls the process Cold Extraction. Its Coffee Guide for EC9885M says the machine uses room-temperature water and completes the extraction in under five minutes. That is the manufacturer’s stated cycle time, not an independent timing result.

De'Longhi La Specialista Maestro Espresso Machine with Coffee Grinder
  • Perfect, consistent grinding with a built-in grinder with 15 precise settings that ensures the optimal single or double dose and grind size.
  • Smart Tamping Technology eliminates the guesswork and mess when tamping. Simply pull the lever to tamp and achieve an even tamp and consistent extraction every time.
  • La Specialista Maestro has a 19 bar Italian pump that delivers the perfect pressure needed throughout the brewing process from low pressure during pre-infusion to the optimal 9 bars of high pressure during extraction.
  • With 5 infusion temperatures, Active Temperature Control provides stability and control in the brewing process. Customize temperature settings at the touch of a button to match water infusion temperature to beans for the optimal extraction.
  • Choose how you craft drinks at home for greater ease and personalization with Automatic Frothing and manual Commercial Style Steam Wand. Enjoy one-touch frothing with the LatteCrema Hot system or craft hands on with MyLatte Art for greater control and personalization.

This is different from conventional cold brew, which is generally made by steeping grounds in cold or room-temperature water for many hours. The EC9885’s quick cycle should therefore be understood as its own cold-coffee method, not as proof that it duplicates a long steep. T3’s reviewer found that it came close to traditional cold brew in taste and texture but did not perfectly replicate it; that is one reviewer’s assessment, not a guarantee of equivalent results for every coffee or palate.

De’Longhi’s guide recommends adding ice to the glass or chilling the drink in a refrigerator until it reaches 4°C, then stirring before drinking. The manual also explains that the pressure gauge will not rise during Cold Extraction because no pressure is produced in this mode. A stationary gauge is expected for this drink, rather than an indication that the machine has failed to build pressure.

What do the specifications tell you about daily use?

The following figures are from De’Longhi’s UK product listing, which does not show a publication date and was accessed on October 7, 2026. They describe that regional listing; do not assume its electrical rating applies to another market.

Listed item UK specification
Grinder Integrated, with 15 settings
Infusion temperature Five profiles
Pump 19 bar
Water tank 2.5 L

The dimensions and 16 kg weight make this a substantial counter-top appliance, so measure the space—including room to access the tank and bean container—before choosing a spot. The UK voltage and frequency are listed for that market only; match the machine to the electricity supply where it will be used.

  • Smart Tamping Station No more too loose or too dense doses, the Smart Tamping Station works in harmony with the sensors to ensure perfect pressure and proper doses with less mess

How demanding is the espresso and milk workflow?

The integrated grinder and Smart Tamping station bring grinding and tamping into the machine’s workflow. They can appeal to someone who wants to prepare espresso with more control while avoiding a separate grinder and manual tamping setup. But integrated assistance does not eliminate dialing in: T3 reports that getting the machine adjusted takes time.

For milk drinks, the cool-touch steam wand and presets support options such as cappuccino, latte macchiato and flat white. T3 describes strong results across the drink options it tried, while also flagging cleaning as a drawback. Those are the reviewer’s reported observations; results and effort can vary with the drink, settings and user routine.

Who is it for—and who should look elsewhere?

  • A good fit: someone who enjoys adjusting coffee preparation, wants an integrated grinder and tamping workflow, and expects to make espresso, milk drinks and cold coffee from one machine.
  • Less suitable: someone prioritizing a small footprint, minimal cleanup or a quick, uncomplicated routine. T3 identifies size, cleaning, price and the time needed to dial in as drawbacks.
  • Worth comparing: T3 points readers toward the La Specialista Touch and Ninja Luxe Café as alternatives for a simpler or more budget-conscious choice. Their current prices and specifications are not established here, so compare local listings and features directly rather than assuming either is cheaper or easier.

Whether the machine is worth its price depends on how often you will use its range and whether you enjoy the hands-on process. Local price, stock and warranty terms vary and are not established here; compare current offers in your market before deciding.

Which EC9885 model should you buy?

Match the model code to your country: the UK product listing uses EC9885.M, while the US support listing uses EC9885M. Confirm the retailer’s exact suffix, voltage and frequency against De’Longhi’s local product information and support materials. A regional naming similarity is not enough to establish electrical compatibility.

For a purchase decision, weigh the full package—not just the fast cold cycle. The La Specialista Maestro EC9885 combines a grinder, tamping assistance and several drink modes, but asks for counter space and user involvement. It makes the strongest case for a curious home barista who will use those options; it is harder to justify for someone seeking the smallest or simplest route to coffee.
