A redirect, reverse proxy setting, or internal error route can affect the method or body—but the symptom alone does not identify which component is responsible.
Trace the request before changing configuration
Record what happens at each stage: the partner’s initial request, the public edge, any proxy or ingress, and the application. For every hop, capture the target URL, request method, whether a body is present (and its length if available), response status, and any Location header. This shows where the POST becomes a GET or where the body disappears.

- Capture the partner’s first response. Record its status code and
Locationheader, then determine whether the partner follows that redirect. Ask for a request trace or check the sender’s documented redirect behavior. - Compare the public edge with the application. If the edge receives a POST with a body but the application sees an empty GET, investigate the proxy or internal routing between them. If the edge already receives a GET, focus on the partner’s redirect handling or the URL it is configured to call.
- Follow every URL transition. Look for a scheme change, hostname alias, path rewrite, or trailing-slash canonicalization. When possible, update the partner to call the final canonical URL directly, avoiding a redirect hop.
- Check the live configuration. If a proxy or ingress is involved, inspect the configuration actually loaded by the deployed version—not only a local file or intended configuration.
NGINX documents reverse-proxy request forwarding and header behavior in its reverse proxy guide. These checks help isolate the failing hop; they do not establish which component is at fault in a particular deployment.

Determine whether a redirect changed the request
A redirect is a reasonable lead after a URL migration, but “redirect” does not describe one universal POST-handling behavior. Record the exact response code and verify how the partner’s HTTP client handles that code. Do not infer method or body preservation from the fact that the request reached a new URL.
#1 Best Overall
For ingress-nginx, documented redirect status options include 301, 302, 307, and 308; its documentation describes 308 as preserving the payload for methods such as POST. The F5 NGINX annotations documentation also describes ingress redirect settings. Check the setting and controller version running in your environment before relying on that behavior: ingress-nginx ConfigMap documentation and F5 NGINX advanced configuration with annotations.
If NGINX is in the request path, check these controls
Request body forwarding
NGINX’s proxy_pass_request_body directive controls whether the original client body is passed to the upstream; its documented default is on. Look for an explicit setting that disables forwarding or a location-specific configuration that differs from the expected one.
Upstream method override
The proxy_method directive can specify the method sent upstream. Check whether it is set in the active location or inherited configuration, especially if the edge sees POST but the application receives GET.
Buffering is not body removal
proxy_request_buffering controls whether NGINX reads the full client body before sending it upstream or forwards the body as it arrives. Buffering and forwarding are separate controls: changing buffering alone is not evidence that NGINX is dropping the body.
Rank #2
- The Shelly Pro 3EM 3CT 63 is a next-gen DIN rail-mountable energy meter for single or three-phase installations, featuring a 63A, 3-phase current transformer for non-contact measurements. It supports 4-quadrant measurement, optical pulse indication of energy usage, and is photovoltaic-ready. *It doesn't have a built-in relay; contactor control requires a Shelly Pro Addon attached to the device.
- Professional Smart Meter - Shelly Pro 3EM-3CT63 is a professional smart meter that reports accumulated energy, voltage, current, active, and apparent power per phase in real time. It stores data for up to 60 days in 1-minute intervals and includes a real-time clock to maintain accurate time if the SNTP server connection is lost.
- Ideal for business energy measurement - In commercial buildings, it helps monitor energy usage across floors or departments allowing accurate cost allocation and identification of energy wastage. In manufacturing plants it tracks energy consumption of heavy machinery, optimizing usage to reduce operational costs. For store owners it monitors energy usage of systems like lighting, HVAC § refrigeration, helping to identify inefficiencies § reduce energy bills while supporting sustainable practices
- Shelly Customer Service - Shelly is one of the fastest-growing Smart Home brands in the world with devices, providing solutions for the automation of private homes, buildings and businesses. We provide our customers with professional support and a 5 years device warranty.
- Shelly Smart Control App will help you control your Shelly devices remotely and will send notifications for all automated events in your home. You can easily configure devices and manage their settings individually, or you can create personalized scenes by combining Shelly devices to trigger certain actions in your home automation.
These directives and their behavior are documented in the NGINX proxy module reference.
Internal error-page routing
Check whether an error_page rule internally redirects the request to a URI. NGINX documents that this specific internal redirect changes methods other than GET and HEAD to GET. That behavior is a distinct error-handling case; it should not be generalized to every proxy rewrite or external redirect. See the NGINX core module reference.
Use the evidence to narrow the fault
- Edge receives POST with a body; application receives GET without one: inspect proxy method overrides, body forwarding, and internal error-page routing.
- Edge receives GET after the partner is redirected: identify the redirect code and verify the partner client’s behavior. A direct request to the canonical endpoint can help distinguish redirect handling from downstream proxy behavior.
- Edge and application both receive POST, but the application reports no body: compare body presence at each intermediate hop and inspect the active routing and proxy configuration rather than assuming the redirect is responsible.
These observations are diagnostic branches, not a finding about any unnamed deployment. The cause is established only when a trace shows where the method or body changes.
