Neither is the universal winner. Choose based on how you plan to build, publish, and sell—and compare the exact plan limits and total cost for your setup. Prices below are the USD amounts shown on the providers’ pricing pages on October 7, 2026; they can change.
How Webflow and Squarespace differ
The central difference is workflow. Webflow organizes publishing and site-specific features around a separate Site plan, with Workspace plans for staging and collaboration. Squarespace presents website plans that combine hosting, editing, and site features in one subscription tier. That distinction affects both how you build and how you calculate cost.

| What you need | Webflow | Squarespace |
|---|---|---|
| Design workflow | Plans include features such as CMS, code components, and custom code capabilities depending on the plan. The setup suits people seeking granular visual control. | Designer templates and the Fluid Engine editor for version 7.1 sites support a template-led workflow. |
| Publishing and collaboration | Workspace supports staging and team or client collaboration; each site published on a custom domain needs its own Site plan. | Website subscription tiers combine hosting and site features; some Squarespace products are separately priced. |
| Structured content | CMS plans have specified collection and item limits. Check the current plan matrix against your content volume. | Commerce and other site features vary by tier; the available evidence does not establish equivalent CMS limits for a direct comparison. |
| Commerce | Ecommerce plans specify item allowances and Webflow platform transaction fees; payment processor charges are separate. | Selling is available across paid website plans, but commerce features and fees vary by tier. |
These are documented differences, not results from a comparative usability or performance test. The available evidence does not establish that either builder is universally easier to use or produces better-looking sites.

Consider Webflow for control and structured content
Webflow is worth considering if you need detailed control over layouts, publish a substantial or frequently updated collection of structured content, or need plan-specific customization. A publication, directory, or content-heavy business site should compare its actual collection and item requirements with the limits on the selected CMS plan. Start with Webflow’s current plans and pricing rather than assuming a limit applies across every plan.
#1 Best Overall
Also account for the Workspace/Site split. Webflow says a Workspace is for staging and team or client collaboration, while a Site plan adds publishing, hosting on a custom domain, and site-specific features. Each site hosted on a custom domain needs its own Site plan. See Webflow’s guide to choosing a Site plan.
Consider Squarespace for an integrated, template-led build
Squarespace is worth considering if you want to start from professionally designed layouts and edit a version 7.1 site with Fluid Engine. Its website subscription includes hosting, layouts, SEO best-practice support, and editing through the app, according to the Squarespace Help Center overview. These are included platform features, not evidence of a guaranteed SEO result.
Check that the specific tier includes the commerce functions you need; selling is available on paid plans, but features and fees vary. Squarespace describes Fluid Engine as its newest website editing experience for version 7.1 sites on its pricing page.

What the plans cost
The following are USD prices displayed on the official pricing pages on October 7, 2026. Webflow Site and Ecommerce figures below are billed yearly; Squarespace prices show both annual and monthly billing. These are subscription prices, not a complete cost estimate: taxes, geography, promotions, add-ons, seats, number of sites, renewal terms, and existing-customer transition arrangements may affect the total.

Webflow’s paid Workspace cost is separate from a paid Site plan; the pricing page shows free and paid Workspace options, but the prices are not stated here. Count any paid Workspace requirement separately when comparing a team setup. Webflow also lists optional products such as Analyze, Optimize, and Localize, so do not assume every feature is included in the Site price.
Webflow’s 0% platform transaction fee on Ecommerce Plus and Advanced does not mean payments are cost-free: payment processor charges are distinct. For Squarespace, review the selected tier’s selling features and fees in the plan-specific selling guide. Compare payment processing, platform fees, item limits, payment methods, shipping, and analytics together.

Squarespace says annual website plans include one year of domain registration on eligible domains, subject to its terms. It is not a permanently free domain. See the Squarespace pricing page for eligibility and conditions.

How to compare the real cost
- Match the setup. Compare the same number of websites, required CMS capacity, commerce features, and number of collaborators.
- Use the same billing interval. The listed Webflow Site and Ecommerce prices are annual-billing rates; Squarespace displays monthly and annual rates. Compare like with like.
- Add separate costs. Include any Webflow Workspace plan, payment processor charges, required add-ons, and any separately priced Squarespace products.
- Check current plan terms. Review the official pricing and feature pages before purchase, including taxes, renewal pricing, geography, and any transition terms that apply to an existing account.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Webflow for consideration if detailed layout control, a structured CMS, or site-specific customization is central to the project—and you are prepared to evaluate Site and Workspace requirements separately.
- Choose Squarespace for consideration if a guided, template-led workflow and an integrated website subscription matter more, and the selected tier covers the store or site functions you require.
- For an online store, decide from the full fee and feature picture, not a platform transaction-fee figure alone.
Plan names have changed on both platforms. Webflow announced simplified plans effective May 13, 2026, with transition terms for some existing customers; see its pricing update. Squarespace’s current Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced tiers replaced Personal, Business, Commerce Basic, and Commerce Advanced. Older comparisons may therefore describe retired plan names or outdated capabilities; consult the current Squarespace plan guide.
