Waymo has reportedly increased its first private debt raise from an earlier target of more than $3 billion to $5 billion. The October 7, 2026 report says the financing is intended to support the robotaxi operator’s expansion, but the amount, lenders and pricing are based on people familiar with the transaction—not publicly confirmed loan documents.

Newspim reported on October 7, citing Bloomberg and unnamed people familiar with the transaction, that Waymo had raised the planned size of its first private debt financing to $5 billion. Bloomberg’s earlier September 2 report described a proposed raise of more than $3 billion. The comparison is between reported deal sizes at different points in negotiations; it does not establish that the financing has closed or that all terms are final. Who is reportedly lending to Waymo?
PIMCO, Blackstone and Sixth Street Partners were named among the reported lenders. Goldman Sachs Group reportedly worked with Waymo to arrange the transaction. These participant details come from people familiar with the private deal, rather than a public loan agreement. Newspim said representatives for PIMCO, Blackstone and Goldman Sachs declined to comment; Waymo and Sixth Street did not respond to its requests.

The reported pricing is a spread of 5.25 percentage points, or 525 basis points, above a benchmark rate. Newspim did not identify the benchmark, so the spread cannot be converted into an all-in interest rate from the available information.

Bloomberg’s September 2 account said pricing on the earlier proposed financing could exceed 500 basis points over the benchmark. That was an earlier expectation, not a confirmed term for the expanded $5 billion deal. The reports also do not establish the final rating, maturity, collateral, covenants or definitive documentation. September coverage described the proposed debt as unrated, but that should not be assumed to remain true for the expanded financing.
Has the financing closed?
As of the October 7 report, loan allocations were reportedly complete and the deal was expected to close officially soon. That is a report of an anticipated closing, not confirmation that the transaction subsequently closed or a statement of its final closing date.

Why is Waymo borrowing to fund growth?
The financing is reported in the context of Waymo increasing its driverless vehicle operations and facing growing AI-related costs. Newspim described plans to add US cities, including Las Vegas and Detroit, and to bring robotaxis to Japan and Singapore in the coming years. Those are reported plans, not evidence that service has launched in those markets.

The same report said Waymo had a goal of one million paid rides per week during 2026. That is a company target as reported at the time, not an established result. Newspim also reported that Waymo raised $16 billion earlier in 2026 at a $126 billion valuation; those are reported financing and valuation figures, not independently established market measures.
