Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema announced The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum in May 2024, with Andy Serkis set to direct and star. Warner Bros.’ announcement introduced the film, but does not establish that Bloom is returning as Legolas.

A MeriStation update dated September 23, 2026 said Warner Bros. Discovery and New Line Cinema had not confirmed Bloom’s return. That is the latest status report located for this article, not a guarantee that the casting status has not changed since.
