If Warzone closes after you click Play or crashes during startup, begin with the checks that match your launcher: update Windows and your graphics driver, let shader preloading finish, then repair the game files. If the problem persists, test for software conflicts and follow Activision’s Windows-setting guidance before submitting a crash report. A startup crash alone does not prove that any particular PC component has failed.
Start with your Windows version and launcher
Confirm whether you launch Warzone through Steam or Battle.net, which Windows version you use, and whether an error message or crash report appears. Update Windows and the graphics driver; finish shader preloading
Install available Windows updates and check Activision’s live troubleshooting page for the graphics-driver advice that applies to your GPU. Its listed driver versions can change, so treat the page—not an old version number—as the current reference. Activision distinguishes workstation cards, such as Quadro, from consumer cards; use the driver type intended for your hardware. The page also notes that official NVIDIA Game Ready Driver support for Maxwell and Pascal architectures has ended and identifies a last recommended driver for those architectures.

Let the first-boot shader process complete
When the game begins Shader Preloading, leave it at the Main Menu until the process finishes. Activision describes shader preloading as important to first boot and says navigating away from the Main Menu stops it, which can lead to performance issues. An interrupted preload is worth correcting, but it does not explain every startup crash.
Repair Warzone files in the launcher you use

If Steam shows that the game is preparing to launch and then nothing appears, that can be an immediate crash, but it has several possible causes. Steam’s general guidance suggests checking whether the PC is at or just below a game’s requirements and checking Windows and framework updates. This is general Steam advice, not a diagnosis specific to Warzone: Games do not run after “Preparing to Launch”.

Make targeted changes rather than broadly disabling antivirus or Windows security. Activision recommends adding the entire Warzone game folder to antivirus exceptions when antivirus interference is suspected, and provides additional instructions for Comodo and BullGuard on its troubleshooting page.

- If you use Razer Synapse, update it.
- If the issue continues, use a Windows clean boot to test whether a nonessential startup program or service is involved. Restore normal startup after the test.
- If ASLR was disabled, re-enable it as Activision advises; do not change unrelated security settings.
- As a targeted conflict test, close NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, or Razer Cortex if you use them, then try launching again.
These are troubleshooting tests, not proof that any one program is responsible. Change one relevant condition at a time where practical so you can tell whether the launch result changes.

After the launcher repair, updates, shader preload, and targeted conflict checks, use Activision’s Call of Duty PC Crash Report process if Warzone still crashes. Include the launcher, Windows version, GPU and driver version, exact error text, and the steps you have already tried. Those details help describe the failure; they do not guarantee a fix.
