What is The Gathering Darkness?
The Gathering Darkness is a Warmachine army box for the Dusk Fane of Nyrro, centered on Harasheth, the Gorged Darkness, a Warlock. Warmachine’s launch announcement described it as a complete force for Command and Skirmish games, designed to introduce Harasheth’s playstyle as well as add to an existing Fane of Nyrro force. Warmachine Official lists September 29, 2026, as the release date.

The publisher characterizes the force as focused on attrition, dark magic, and using casualties as a resource. Those are official descriptions, not independent tabletop testing or evidence of competitive performance.

Is it suitable for a new player?
Warmachine presents the box as an entry point to the Fane of Nyrro, while also recommending it to existing players looking to expand their force. If you are new to the faction, the key practical question is whether you want to build around Harasheth and this attrition-oriented approach. If you already collect Fane of Nyrro, consider whether the listed models add options you want for your games.
The official launch announcement says the force is intended for both Command and Skirmish play. It does not establish how the box compares with other forces under current rules, so treat “complete force” as the publisher’s product positioning rather than a guarantee that it is the best choice for every format or player.

Rules and lore access
Warmachine’s launch material directs players to its app for rules and list-building tools, and the August 2026 preview points readers to the Fane of Nyrro Compendium there for lore. App features and access terms can change. Privateer Press’s March 7, 2023 announcement described the MKIV app as including rules, stat-card information, army building, list sharing, match play, and a new-player training guide, with an optional subscription for premium content; that historical description does not confirm today’s subscription terms or feature set. Check Warmachine’s current app information before relying on a particular feature or access arrangement.
