If WARDOGS voice chat is not working, start with the in-game voice reset that Team17 Support recommends, then confirm that your microphone works in Steam. If Steam’s microphone test picks up your voice but teammates still cannot hear you, the problem is probably past your device. WARDOGS says its voice chat runs on a third-party service, and the checks below cannot tell you whether that service is the cause on a given day.
Fix 1: Reset voice chat in WARDOGS Audio settings
Team17 Support’s first step for voice problems is a simple off-and-on toggle. It is reversible and takes about a minute.

- Open the Audio settings in WARDOGS.
- Turn Voice Chat off and select Apply.
- Wait several seconds.
- Turn Voice Chat back on and select Apply again.
- Join or rejoin a match, then test the voice channel you actually need, such as squad or local voice, with a teammate.
If teammates can hear you on that channel, you are finished. If not, move to the next fix.

Fix 2: Disconnect and reconnect voice from the scoreboard
In a later reply on the Team17 Support thread on Steam, Support describes a second sequence for a reported voice failure. It works from inside a match and does not change any settings.

- Press TAB to open the scoreboard.
- Press U to disconnect from voice.
- Wait five seconds.
- Press U again to reconnect.
- Retry squad or local voice.
- If the red-cross indicator remains, reload the game.
Treat this as Support’s guidance for the issue described in that thread. It is not a guaranteed fix for every voice failure.
Fix 3: Confirm the microphone in your operating system and in Steam
Valve’s Steam support guidance covers the input path that sits outside WARDOGS. Work through it before you blame the game.

- Confirm that the microphone is physically connected and selected as the input device in your operating system’s sound settings.
- In Steam, open the Friends & Chat voice settings and select the same input device you want the game to use.
- Select Start Microphone Test and speak. The test should show your voice being picked up.
If the operating system or Steam cannot see your microphone, fix that first. Nothing inside WARDOGS will work until it does.

Fix 4: Check voice transmission type and push-to-talk
Valve notes two settings that commonly cause silent voice even when the microphone works:

- Voice Transmission Type: confirm that it matches how you want to talk, whether that is push-to-talk or open transmission.
- Push-to-talk binding: confirm that the key or button you hold is the one you think it is, and that it is not already bound to something else.
- Input switching at launch: Steam can switch to a different input when a game starts. After you launch WARDOGS, check which input is in use, because a mismatch with step 3 above will produce silence.
Fix 5: Test whether teammates actually receive your voice
A passing microphone test proves only that your device is sending audio to your own computer. It does not prove that WARDOGS delivered that audio to another player. Ask a teammate in the same match, on the same channel, whether they hear you after Fixes 1 and 2 have been tried.

A passing input test followed by silence from teammates means the fault lies in the game, the channel, the server, or the third-party voice service. You cannot separate those causes from your own machine.

New hardware helps only in one case: when your current input fails the operating-system check or the Steam microphone test. A USB headset with a microphone or a replacement microphone can solve that kind of failure. It will not fix a voice-delivery problem, and no specific brand or model is recommended for WARDOGS. Team17’s support steps do not recommend buying anything.

What is and is not established
- Team17 Support has recommended the Audio toggle in Fix 1 and the scoreboard sequence in Fix 2 for reported voice failures. Neither is a documented fix for every case.
- WARDOGS identifies its voice chat as a third-party-provided service, as stated on its official safety page. The sources do not name that provider.
- No current WARDOGS voice outage, recovery time, or fix success rate is established by the available material. If the steps above fail, check the Team17 Support thread for newer replies before assuming the fault is on your side.
In short, work through the fixes in order. Stop at the first one that restores voice with a teammate. If the microphone passes every local check and teammates still hear nothing after the in-game steps, the fault is almost certainly outside your computer.
