If your Android home screen feels dull, try changing its widgets before replacing its launcher. KWGT Kustom Widget Maker lets you create or edit home-screen widgets with custom text, colors, shapes, images, and glanceable information. It is a widget editor, not a launcher, so it can give your existing home screen a different look without changing how you move between apps.
What KWGT changes—and what it doesn’t
A launcher controls much of the home-screen experience, including app icons, pages, and navigation. KWGT focuses on widgets: the panels that can show a clock, weather, music controls, or other information on the home screen. You can build one from a blank canvas or start with a preset and adjust it.

How to make your first KWGT widget
Exact menu names vary by Android version, device maker, and launcher, but the usual flow is to add a KWGT widget from the home-screen editing interface and open its editor.
- Add a widget: Long-press an empty area of the home screen, open the widgets picker, and choose a KWGT size. Some launchers expose the picker through a home-screen edit button instead.
- Place and open it: Drag the widget onto the home screen. If it appears blank, tap it to open the KWGT editor.
- Choose a starting point: Select a preset or skin if one is available, rather than beginning with an empty canvas.
- Make a few edits: Change only a small number of elements at first—such as the text, color, font, or position—so you can see how each change affects the design.
- Save a restore point before experimenting: The workflow described in Android Police’s August 30, 2026 article reports that the editor has no undo control. Save a copy or restore point before trying changes you may want to reverse.
If a widget does not fit its space, check the widget’s size and the launcher’s resizing controls before rebuilding it. Starting with a preset and making incremental changes is a practical way to learn the editor without having to design every element from scratch.

Permissions, live information, and battery trade-offs
Some widget content needs access to relevant data. For example, a weather widget that uses your location may need location permission; grant only permissions needed for the features you choose. The August 2026 article reports that restricting location access prevented weather content from appearing in its author’s editing flow, but that observation does not establish the behavior of every device or setup.

Widgets that refresh live information frequently may have a battery cost. The available product description does not quantify that impact, so consider how often the widget needs updates and whether you actually need its live content.

Kustom Industries’ Google Play description says, “All data is processed locally—your health info never leaves your device.” This is the developer’s statement about Health Connect data used by the app’s fitness functions, not an independently verified privacy finding. Read the app listing.
Is the free app enough, or do you need Pro?
Google Play lists the base KWGT app as free with ads and in-app purchases. Its listing describes widget-creation features, so the Pro Key is not presented as a requirement to create widgets. The optional key adds specific extras:

When KWGT is a good fit

KWGT makes the most sense when the part of your home screen you want to change is the widget itself. If you want a different navigation system, app drawer, or broader home-screen behavior, a widget editor is not a substitute for a launcher. If you mainly want a distinctive clock, weather panel, or information display, a preset and a few careful edits can be a lower-commitment place to start.
