To add country icons to a Vue 3 app, install vue3-flag-icons, import its stylesheet once in your app entry point, then render its FlagIcon component with a country code.

</template>The component documentation describes code values as lower- or uppercase country codes supported by its flag-icons code set, a superset of ISO 3166-1 alpha-2. Its documented options include pixel size, square or circular presentation, and a title tooltip that defaults to the country name. It also provides helpers to look up country names, check codes, and list available codes. These are maintainer-documented features; test them in your project’s build. Package documentation

Validate country codes before rendering
Country codes from an API, form, or database should be checked against the icon set rather than assumed to be valid. The component package documents code-checking and available-code helpers; use them at the data boundary so invalid values do not silently produce a missing icon. The accepted set is based on flag-icons and extends beyond ISO 3166-1 alpha-2, so a valid code in one system may not mean the same thing as a country code in your own data model.
Make the icon accessible and visually consistent
- If the country name is already visible beside the flag, treat the icon as decorative for assistive technology so the country is not announced twice.
- If the flag appears alone, expose the country name with an accessible label. Do not rely on a tooltip as the only way to communicate the country.
- Do not use a flag alone to communicate a critical selection or status; pair it with text.
- For consistent lists, choose one size and shape and maintain adequate contrast. Country flags have differing proportions, so a fixed presentation can aid alignment, but preserve a visible edge where needed.
Unicode notes that country flag emoji sequences represent regions rather than a specific flag image: “Although a pair of REGIONAL INDICATOR symbols is referred to as an emoji_flag_sequence, it really represents a specific region, not a specific flag for that region.” Unicode Technical Standard #51, Annex B

Check compatibility before choosing an older Vue flag package
A package name containing “Vue” does not guarantee Vue 3 support. The vue-flagpack repository describes its Vue implementation as created with Vue 2.5.11, reports Vue 3 compatibility problems, and lists Vue 3 support as future work. Flagpack repository
The older vue-country-flag listing documents a Vue component that uses Flag Icons CSS, but lists version 2.3.2 as published five years ago and shows Vue 2-era registration examples. Verify it against your specific Vue setup before adopting it. Package listing

For Nuxt 3 or server-side rendering, follow the selected package’s current setup instructions and test the result in the actual production build. The vue3-flag-icons README claims SSR compatibility and includes a Nuxt 3 CSS configuration example, but this is maintainer documentation rather than an independent runtime test.
