A parent sets it up through the child’s compatible device, then manages the child’s profile and approved contacts. Before starting, confirm that KidiConnect is currently available for your region and device: availability differs by country, and VTech’s published phone requirements are several years old.
What KidiConnect does—and what it requires
KidiConnect lets a child communicate through a compatible VTech device with a parent-approved list of contacts. VTech identifies KidiBuzz as one compatible device. Its KidiBuzz product page describes messages including texts, photos, drawings, animated stickers, and quick voice messages; the listed device is product number 80-169500 and is described for ages 4–9. VTech’s setup tutorial puts the service plainly: “With KidiConnect™, kids can use their KidiBuzz™ to send messages to a parent-approved list of contacts.” VTech KidiConnect setup tutorial
The GB-English Google Play description also lists voice messages, photos, drawings, stickers, pre-recorded messages, text messages, and group chat. That is a regional store description; it does not establish that every feature is available on every device, app version, or in every country. Check availability and compatibility first
Availability depends on region. VTech France says Kid Connect and KidiConnect were removed from the App Store and Google Play in France in June 2025, and points users to KidiCom Chat instead. - A tablet that meets the operating-system requirements may be used, but the app is not optimized for tablet displays and some elements may be misaligned.
These are requirements in older VTech documentation, not a guarantee that current phones, operating systems, app versions, or accounts are supported. Check your regional VTech support information and the relevant app-store listing before buying hardware or beginning setup. Set up KidiConnect
VTech’s published setup sequence begins on the child’s device and uses the Learning Lodge account of the parent who registered it. Follow current on-device instructions if they differ from the older tutorial.

- Register the child’s device. Use VTech’s registration process for the compatible device.
- Unlock KidiConnect on the child’s device. Complete the parental-consent steps shown there. VTech’s tutorial, published approximately in 2017, describes a $0.50 credit-card charge for adult verification and says VTech will not store the card details. Because the instructions are old, do not assume that the same amount or process applies today; follow the current on-device flow.
- Install KidiConnect on the parent’s phone or tablet. Confirm first that the app is currently offered for your country and compatible with your device.
- Sign in with the registering parent’s Learning Lodge account. VTech’s setup materials say to use the account of the parent who registered the child’s device.
- Create the parent and child profiles. The registering parent manages the child profile and contact list.
- Invite other family members if needed. A second parent or relative joins using a separate account as an invited family member.
Manage the child’s contacts
The registering parent controls the child’s contact list. VTech’s store description says people outside the approved list cannot contact the child. This describes the service’s contact controls; it is not an independent security certification. To add or remove someone, use the parent account’s contact-management controls and approve the child’s contacts there. Revoke a child’s access
VTech’s FAQ says the parent can revoke consent by unchecking “Unlock KidiConnect for My Child” in Parent Settings, confirming removal, and following the instructions sent to the Learning Lodge email account. The app icon may remain on the child’s home screen after access is removed; the icon’s presence alone does not mean access is still enabled. VTech US FAQ

KidiConnect and Kid Connect: what changed?
VTech describes KidiConnect as an improved successor to its older Kid Connect app, with a reorganized interface and other improvements intended to ensure data security. That security language is VTech’s description, not a finding from an independent audit. VTech’s FAQ says users can sign in with an old Kid Connect login and that old account information will be carried over. - The app is missing from your store: Store availability is regional and can change. Check your country’s current app listing and VTech regional support rather than relying on an older setup guide.
- The phone meets the old minimum but setup fails: The documented operating-system thresholds are dated. Verify current app and OS support, then follow the instructions presented by the app and child’s device.
- A relative cannot contact the child: Ask the registering parent to check whether that person has joined with a separate account and is on the child’s approved contact list.
- The child’s app icon remains after removal: VTech says the icon can remain even when access has been revoked. Check the Parent Settings consent status and complete any email instructions.
