If your vMix stream to YouTube keeps buffering on Airtel broadband, first check that the selected codec, output resolution and frame rate, and bitrate match YouTube’s guidance—and that your actual upload connection can sustain them. Then check vMix’s network buffer and the streaming computer’s CPU/GPU load. The title alone does not establish whether the cause is Airtel, your local network, the route to YouTube, or the encoding workload.
Why might a vMix YouTube stream buffer on Airtel broadband?
Buffering can result when the connection cannot deliver the configured stream consistently, but a high bitrate is not the only possible cause. Local Wi-Fi, other household traffic, router behavior, the route to YouTube, Airtel provisioning, or an overloaded streaming computer may also be involved. Without your Airtel plan, measured upload performance, router setup, and test results, it is not possible to identify the cause or recommend a plan upgrade.

Use a test from the computer and network arrangement you will stream with. If lowering the output bitrate or resolution improves stability while vMix remains responsive, the upload path is a likely constraint; repeat the test to check. If vMix performs poorly even at a lower bitrate while upload tests appear adequate, investigate system and encoding load. These are diagnostic clues, not a remote diagnosis.

Match the vMix output to YouTube’s bitrate guidance
Check the stream’s actual output resolution, frame rate, codec or encoder, and configured video bitrate in vMix. YouTube’s recommended bitrate depends on the ingestion codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its H.264 guidance lists these figures; the year is not stated on the help page:
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset

| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These are encoder recommendations, not proof that a broadband plan can sustain the required upload. YouTube lists different values for other codecs: for example, the AV1/H.265 rows include 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Use the row corresponding to the codec and output actually selected rather than applying an H.264 figure to another encoder. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions; recommendations may change.
If the current output is demanding more than tests show the connection can sustain reliably, try a lower resolution or frame rate and use the matching bitrate guidance. Change one setting at a time, then test again. Keep the vMix stream size consistent with the output aspect ratio.

Test the real upload path before the event
- Run an upload speed test from the streaming computer, using the same wired or wireless setup planned for the event. YouTube recommends a speed test to assess upload bitrate.
- Test at a time representative of when the buffering occurs. A single speed test does not establish that the connection will remain stable throughout a long stream.
- Run a representative private or unlisted test, or another appropriate test stream, with similar audio and motion to the planned broadcast. YouTube advises testing before going live.
- Watch YouTube’s stream health and messages during the test, and note whether problems coincide with vMix load or changing upload performance.
Compare results over time rather than relying only on an advertised plan speed or one brief measurement. YouTube’s guidance is at support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702.

Network buffer
vMix advises increasing the Network Buffer if the maximum available network speed is unreliable. The buffer is the maximum number of seconds of stream data vMix can keep buffered and represents potential latency from vMix; streaming servers and players add their own buffering. A larger value may help tolerate speed variation, but it adds potential delay. It does not increase upload speed or fix packet loss. See the vMix Streaming Quality guide.
Strict CBR
vMix says Strict CBR tries to keep streaming speed close to the selected bitrate and may reduce quality. Treat it as a setting to evaluate in a controlled test, not as a general remedy for an upload bottleneck. Change it only when you can compare stream health and output under the same test conditions.

Check whether the computer is struggling to encode
During a test, inspect CPU and GPU use as well as upload behavior. vMix uses CPU for audio and video compression, recording, and streaming. If CPU load is high and an NVIDIA graphics card is installed, vMix suggests trying “Use Hardware Encoder” to reduce CPU use. It is a trial, not a guarantee: results depend on the GPU, driver, project, and installed vMix version. Consult the vMix performance guide and verify the labels in your release.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteA practical order for isolating the problem
- Write down the current codec, output resolution and frame rate, video bitrate, and vMix performance during the stream.
- Compare the output settings with the matching YouTube bitrate guidance.
- Test upload performance and stream health from the actual setup at a representative time.
- Reduce resolution or frame rate and set the matching bitrate; test before changing another variable.
- If the connection appears adequate but vMix is struggling, investigate CPU/GPU load and try hardware encoding where appropriate.
- Adjust vMix’s network buffer only if the maximum network speed is unreliable and additional latency is acceptable.
This sequence helps separate an output that is too demanding from possible encoding or network instability. It cannot, by itself, determine whether Airtel’s service, the local network, or the path to YouTube is responsible.

Common symptoms and what to check
- YouTube stream health worsens when you use a higher output: check that bitrate against the exact codec, resolution, and frame-rate row; test at a lower output and compare.
- Upload tests vary or the issue appears at busy times: repeat tests in the intended setup and at representative times; check whether household traffic or Wi-Fi conditions coincide with the change.
- vMix struggles even after lowering the bitrate: inspect CPU/GPU load and encoder selection; test hardware encoding if you have an NVIDIA graphics card.
- Buffering eases after increasing the network buffer, but delivery is delayed: that trade-off is consistent with added buffering. The setting does not repair the underlying connection.
- The connection test looks good but a live test still has problems: compare stream-health messages, vMix load, and upload behavior during a representative test; a short speed test alone does not establish sustained stability.
