A short configured item duration can advance a PlayList before a clip finishes; List input settings can stop or skip items; a media decoder can report the wrong duration; and a stream disconnect is a separate problem. Check them in that order rather than treating every early stop as a bad video file.
Identify what ends early
Watch vMix and YouTube when the problem occurs, and note which of these matches:

- The next item starts while the current clip still has content. Check the PlayList item’s duration or List input behavior.
- The current file itself reaches its end early. Compare its duration as shown in vMix with playback outside the playlist, and note its format and origin.
- The sequence stops without advancing. Check whether the List has Auto Next enabled, whether an item is disabled, and whether looping is configured.
- The YouTube live broadcast ends or disconnects. Check vMix’s stream state and streaming log; this is not the same as a playlist reaching its end.
Record the media format, duration displayed in vMix, playback feature in use, relevant settings, and whether the YouTube broadcast stayed live. Those details help distinguish a timer from a file or connection problem.

vMix PlayList items have individual start positions, durations, transitions, and transition times. The item’s duration controls how long it runs before the playlist moves to the next item; a duration of zero means use the input’s duration. See the vMix PlayList documentation.

- Open the PlayList and locate the item that advances too soon.
- Open its item settings and compare its configured duration with the clip’s expected duration. Check the starting position as well: playback beginning partway through a clip can make the remaining time shorter.
- If the item should run for the full input duration, set its duration to zero, as described in the vMix documentation. Otherwise, set a duration that matches the intended playback time.
- Check whether the playlist is in Manual Mode. Confirm the setting matches whether you expect automatic advancement or manual control.
- Test the affected item again and observe whether vMix advances at the expected point.
An early transition caused by an item duration does not establish that the underlying media file is corrupt.
Check a List input separately
A List input has controls distinct from PlayList item timing. Its Auto Next setting is enabled by default in the cited vMix guide. The List also supports Loop and skipping disabled items; a total remaining-time display is available when the format supports it. Review the vMix List input documentation.

- Open the List input’s settings and check whether Auto Next is enabled if the list should advance automatically.
- Check whether Loop is set as intended. If the sequence should repeat, confirm looping is enabled; if it should finish, make sure looping is not masking where playback ends.
- Inspect the items for disabled entries and check whether the List is configured to skip them.
- Where supported, use the remaining-time display to compare the expected time with what vMix reports.
- Play the affected item by itself as well as in the List. If it ends early in both cases, investigate duration reporting or media handling rather than only the sequence settings.
When the displayed file duration is wrong
Note the file type and compare the duration vMix reports with what happens when the file is opened outside the playlist. If the mismatch follows a particular format, use only the matching decoder workaround documented by vMix; these are targeted fixes, not general remedies for every early stop.
MP3 with an incorrect duration
For MP3 files with incorrect duration, vMix documents adding *.mp3 to the FFMPEG decoder list under Settings > Decoders > FFMPEG, then restarting vMix. Follow the steps in the vMix MP3 playback article. Confirm whether the reported duration and playback improve after the restart. If the change does not help, revert it rather than assuming it applies to other formats.

MP4 compatibility issue
For an MP4 compatibility issue, vMix documents adding *.mp4 to the FFMPEG decoder list and restarting. The cited guidance specifies current software and 64-bit vMix; consult the vMix MP4 playback article and verify that your setup meets its stated conditions. This decoder change is not a universal fix for a playlist configured to advance early.
Use indexing for the documented FFMPEG recording case
A distinct short-playback case involves MOV or MP4 recordings made using vMix’s FFMPEG fault-tolerant recording option, then played in other programs. vMix says these files can play only the first few seconds or appear incomplete in an editing timeline. For that specific case, use vMix Video Tools to index the file, or choose “MOV (Indexed)” or “MP4 (Indexed)” when recording future files. See vMix’s indexing instructions.

Do not apply indexing just because a PlayList moves to its next item early. First establish that the file is one of the described FFMPEG recordings and that the problem occurs in another playback or editing program.
If the YouTube live broadcast ends or disconnects
If only a clip or list sequence stops while YouTube remains live, start with the playback checks above. If the broadcast itself terminates, determine whether the vMix stream was stopped. In vMix’s YouTube Live Stream Now setup guidance, finishing the stream in vMix also automatically ends it in YouTube.

If vMix reports a disconnect or its streaming control changes state, inspect the latest log in C:ProgramDatavMixstreaming. The vMix streaming log guide describes errors including a real-time buffer becoming too full during slow startup or network congestion. Disconnection messages can point to a local internet outage, an internet provider outage or closure, or security software. Use the actual log messages to guide the next step rather than inferring a network failure from the playlist ending.

If the checks do not identify the cause, preserve the information needed to reproduce or diagnose the issue:
- vMix version and whether it is 64-bit, where relevant to the MP4 guidance.
- Media file format, displayed duration, and whether the file ends early outside the playlist.
- Whether you use PlayList or List, plus the affected item’s duration, start position, and relevant List settings.
- Whether the YouTube broadcast stayed live, and the latest relevant streaming log if it disconnected.
