Vivaldi vs. Safari on iPhone: what the available evidence can establish
The clearest supported differences concern Vivaldi’s documented controls. Its iOS help explains how to choose tracker and ad blocking levels, adjust blocking for individual sites, and manage lists. Its settings help describes multiple interface options. By contrast, Apple’s located Safari privacy paper dates to November 2019 and does not provide a current setting-by-setting inventory of Safari on iPhone.

Ad blocking: Vivaldi documents adjustable levels and lists
Vivaldi’s iOS help describes three choices under its Tracker and Ad Blocker settings. You can set a default and change the level for an individual site, with exceptions available for sites where you want different behavior. The tracker blocker uses lists of known tracker URLs and is described as stopping requests to those URLs before they are sent; the ad-blocking level adds blocking for many ads beyond tracker blocking. These descriptions are from Vivaldi, not a measured block-rate comparison.

Vivaldi also documents selectable blocking sources and importing additional lists by URL. Optional lists can hide cookie warnings, but some cookies are needed for sites to work. More blocking is not automatically better for every page: Vivaldi warns that a site may not look or function as expected and recommends reducing or disabling blocking for that site when troubleshooting.
Where to change blocking in Vivaldi
- Open Vivaldi’s Tracker and Ad Blocker settings and choose a default level: No Blocking, Block Trackers, or Block Trackers and Ads.
- For a site that needs different treatment, open that site’s blocking controls and choose its level or manage it as an exception.
- To change which sources are used, enable or disable the listed blocking sources, or import a supported list by URL.
- If a page breaks or looks incomplete, lower the blocking level for that site or turn blocking off there to see whether the blocker is involved.
Vivaldi’s help pages do not establish that every ad or tracker will be blocked. The practical advantage supported here is user control over blocking depth and exceptions, paired with a compatibility trade-off on some sites.

Privacy: distinguish product claims from platform documentation
Vivaldi says on its iOS product page that the company does not track or profile user behavior and that synced browser data is end-to-end encrypted. Those are Vivaldi’s statements about its practices, not independently verified findings in this comparison.
Apple’s Safari Privacy Overview, dated November 2019, describes content-blocker extension APIs designed to protect privacy by preventing an extension developer from accessing browsing data. That is useful historical documentation of a privacy design, but it should not be treated as a complete account of Safari or iOS protections today.

These are different kinds of evidence: a company’s claims about its own data practices versus a dated explanation of platform APIs. They do not support a definitive ranking of which browser is “more private,” and no independent comparative test is established here.

Vivaldi’s iOS settings documentation describes choices for themes and website color scheme, address-bar and tab-bar placement, tab styles, Start Page configuration, and app icons. It also lists settings for bookmarks, passwords, default search engine choices, and importing Safari data.

Vivaldi’s product page additionally presents desktop-style tabs, Speed Dials, Notes, Reading List, and sync as iOS features. Availability can depend on the app version, so check the current app if a particular feature is essential. Together, these options give a concrete basis for considering Vivaldi when you want to adjust browser layout or organize a start page and tabs.

Which browser fits your priorities?
- Choose Vivaldi if you want documented built-in blocking levels, per-site adjustments, list choices, and multiple interface settings to tune.
- Consider Safari if your priority is Apple’s browser and its privacy approach; the available historical Apple paper describes privacy-oriented content-blocker APIs, but does not settle a present-day overall comparison.
- For either browser, treat privacy claims according to their evidence: vendor statements are not independent audits, and feature documentation is not a comparative test.
