To add a Visa gift card to your Amazon.com account, sign in and go to Your Account > Your Payments > Add a payment method. Enter the card details and follow the prompts. You can also add it while checking out. Acceptance depends on the card issuer and Amazon’s restrictions, so a saved card is not guaranteed to work for every order.
How to add the Visa gift card to your account
- Sign in to your Amazon.com account.
- Open Your Account, then choose Your Payments.
- Select Add a payment method.
- Enter the Visa gift card information and follow the on-screen instructions. Amazon’s account-navigation guidance is at Amazon Customer Service.
If you are already placing an order, choose Add a credit or debit card on the payment-method screen and enter the card details there. Saving a card is for future purchases; it does not change the payment method on an order that is already open.

When a prepaid Visa works—and why it may be declined
Amazon staff say prepaid Visa, Mastercard, and American Express cards may work for most Amazon.com purchases, subject to restrictions. A card can be saved to the account but still fail authorization for a particular purchase.

- You generally cannot split one order across a prepaid card and another payment card. If the prepaid card does not cover the amount Amazon needs to authorize, you may not be able to make up the difference with a second card on that order.
- The issuer may require registered billing details. Check with the card issuer to confirm activation and whether a name or billing address must be registered for online purchases; enter details that match the issuer’s records.
- CVV requirements can be an issue. Amazon staff have noted that a CVV requirement may interfere with processing when Amazon does not support entering that code for the card.
These limitations are described in an Amazon staff forum response. That response also mentions a $1 authorization example as a card-validity check, not a purchase charge. It dates to 2022 and is not a universal amount or rule for every card or transaction; an issuer may temporarily make authorized funds unavailable.

Amazon UK’s help page also describes prepaid-card restrictions, including limits on combining a prepaid card with another payment card and possible address-registration requirements. Use the card directly or try converting it to Amazon balance

The direct route is for paying for an eligible order with the prepaid card. The gift-card route may be useful if you want value held in your Amazon gift-card balance, but the source does not establish that every prepaid card or account can use it.

Amazon.com shopping is different from Amazon Pay
