If what you really want is Yahtzee’s current work, he continues the format as Fully Ramblomatic at Second Wind. These shows overlap in attitude, not in subject, pace or comic style, so the best choice depends on which part of Yahtzee’s appeal you value most.
The recommendations below separate short reviews, industry commentary and a direct continuation of Croshaw’s work. They also identify older names associated with his influences without presenting them as confirmed current substitutes.

Quick picks
| What you want | Start here | Why it fits | Important difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast, funny coverage of a game | The Escapist’s 3 Minute Reviews | Short episodes with an entertaining, relatively holistic look at a title; the series has often highlighted smaller or less familiar games. | The tone is generally less abrasive than Zero Punctuation, and the selection may avoid the biggest AAA releases. |
| Criticism of the games business | The Jimquisition | Focuses on current affairs, customer-facing issues and occasional game-design discussion. | It is topical commentary rather than a joke-dense review of every mechanic in one game. |
| Yahtzee’s own current format | Fully Ramblomatic | Ben Croshaw continued the pointed, irreverent format at Second Wind after leaving The Escapist. | This is a continuation, not an alternative creator. |
| Historical influences and lineage | Charlie Brooker; Noah Antwiler’s The Spoony Experiment | Croshaw named both when discussing his influences and favorite internet reviewers. | The relevant interview is from 21 March 2008; it does not establish that either currently publishes comparable game reviews. |
What people usually mean by “like Yahtzee”
Yahtzee’s appeal is not simply that he is negative. In a GameSpot interview published on 21 March 2008, Croshaw described the formula as being funny while still making valid points. That combination matters: the jokes are attached to observations about mechanics, pacing, writing, controls or business decisions instead of replacing analysis altogether.
He also said that, as a reader, he preferred negative magazine reviews because they tended to be funnier and that he looked for humor and negativity. That is his personal taste, not a rule that good criticism must be hostile. A viewer who wants the same energy may therefore be seeking one of several different things:

- Comic aggression: vivid insults, exaggeration and a willingness to make the flaws the entertainment.
- Specific criticism: jokes that still identify why a system, level, story or monetization decision fails.
- Discovery: recommendations for unusual or overlooked games rather than only the most heavily marketed releases.
- Outspoken consumer advocacy: criticism aimed at publishers, storefronts, labor practices or customer treatment.
No other program reproduces all five in exactly the same proportions. Use the distinctions below to decide which element deserves priority.
The Escapist’s 3 Minute Reviews: the closest short-form alternative
Why it is a good first stop
Michael Crider’s PCWorld recommendation, published 25 August 2023, describes 3 Minute Reviews as concise and entertaining while taking a more holistic approach than a rapid-fire roast. That makes it the clearest match for a reader who wants a short review that still gives a sense of the whole game.
The series has often moved away from the most obvious blockbuster releases. Its episodes can give attention to smaller, shorter or lesser-known games, which adds discovery value that a mainstream release calendar may not provide. If you enjoy finding a strange, compact title and hearing an immediate argument for or against it, this is the option to try first.

Expect a less abrasive delivery and less dependence on a sustained barrage of insults. The entertainment comes from concise writing and a clear overall judgment, not necessarily from reproducing Zero Punctuation’s exact rhythm. A viewer who wants jokes every second may find it gentler; a viewer who wants an efficient recommendation may find the balance more useful.

What to check before settling in
Crider’s article is from August 2023, so it is evidence of the series’ character at that time, not a promise of a current upload schedule. Check the show’s present channel or feed for recent episodes and availability. Treat the series as a strong format match, not as a guarantee that every new game or every episode will suit your taste.
The Jimquisition: choose it for industry and consumer criticism
What the show covers
The official Jimquisition About page describes a program centered on current affairs, customer-facing issues and occasional game-design discussion. That makes it a better fit when the thing you enjoy about Yahtzee is blunt criticism of the games industry rather than only jokes about a single title’s bad combat or awkward story.
James Stephanie Sterling’s page says Sterling has worked in videogame reporting and criticism since 2006 and that the site is fan-funded. The same page includes disclosures about Sterling’s game voice acting and crowdfunding contributions. If a particular episode concerns a project connected to those disclosures, read the show’s current disclosure information and the episode-specific context before deciding how much weight to give the commentary.

Choose The Jimquisition when your question is “What is this company doing to players?” rather than “Is this game’s third level any good?” Episodes can address pricing, policies, customer treatment, platform decisions or wider industry behavior, with game design appearing as part of that discussion. The target is often an institution or practice, not just a flawed product.

Where the match ends
The show is not a drop-in replacement for a timed review of every release. Topic-led commentary can be longer, more contextual and less tied to a single game. If you need a quick buy-or-skip answer, start with 3 Minute Reviews; if you want an argument about how the business affects players, The Jimquisition is the stronger fit.
Fully Ramblomatic: Yahtzee without the substitute question
What changed
After leaving The Escapist, Croshaw continued the Zero Punctuation format at Second Wind under the name Fully Ramblomatic. PC Gamer reported this continuation on 11 October 2026, describing the series as retaining the tradition of irreverent, pointed criticism.
That distinction is important. Fully Ramblomatic is not a creator who happens to resemble Yahtzee; it is Yahtzee’s own current work under a new home and title. If you are asking because you lost track of new episodes, this is the direct answer before you sample alternatives.

Why the format still works
Croshaw’s method relies on turning a review into a tightly written performance. Descriptions are exaggerated for comic effect, but the underlying complaint remains legible. Jody Macgregor of PC Gamer summarized the value of that effort by arguing that making a description witty instead of plain requires more work to keep an audience engaged, and that doing so for games suggests enough care to demand the audience’s attention. That is an interpretation by Macgregor, not a statement Croshaw made about himself, but it explains why the format can remain entertaining even when the verdict is severe.

What it is not
Do not choose Fully Ramblomatic expecting a new host, a calmer review style or an independent alternative perspective. It is the continuation of the established voice. For a genuinely different critic, move to 3 Minute Reviews or The Jimquisition and accept that the rhythm and priorities will change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Historical leads: useful context, not current guarantees
Noah Antwiler and The Spoony Experiment
In the 21 March 2008 GameSpot interview, Croshaw named Noah Antwiler of The Spoony Experiment as his personal favorite internet reviewer. That makes Antwiler a useful historical lead if you want to explore the online criticism culture that surrounded early video game web shows.
The interview is nearly two decades old. It does not verify a current publishing schedule, a present-day focus on game reviews or continued availability of comparable episodes. Treat it as a clue to the lineage of Croshaw’s taste, then check current activity independently.
Charlie Brooker
Croshaw also cited Charlie Brooker as a major influence. Brooker’s work is relevant to the history of sharp, satirical criticism, but the interview does not establish him as a current substitute for a game-review channel. Use the name to understand the style’s broader satirical background, not as a promise of regular modern game coverage.

Compare the options by the decision that matters to you
| Decision factor | 3 Minute Reviews | The Jimquisition | Fully Ramblomatic | Historical leads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical subject | An individual game, often a smaller or less familiar one | Industry affairs, customer-facing problems and selected design issues | An individual game through Yahtzee’s established format | Varies; current focus is not established by the dated interview |
| Pace | Compact | Topic-dependent and generally less compressed | Fast, tightly written delivery | Not stated |
| Comic approach | Entertaining and comparatively measured | Issue-led, outspoken criticism | Irreverent and pointed | Historical influence, not a verified present-day style |
| Discovery value | Strongest for overlooked or shorter games | Strongest for issues and practices players may miss | Strongest if you specifically want Croshaw’s own selections | Useful for exploring origins rather than finding a dependable feed |
| Best question to ask | “Can I understand this game quickly?” | “How is the industry treating players?” | “What does Yahtzee think of this game now?” | “Where did this style come from?” |

A practical way to choose your next reviewer
- Identify the object of your interest. If you want a verdict on a particular game, begin with 3 Minute Reviews or Fully Ramblomatic. If you want criticism of pricing, policy or company behavior, begin with The Jimquisition.
- Decide how much compression you need. Pick 3 Minute Reviews when you have only a few minutes. Pick Fully Ramblomatic when you want that quick, highly performed format from Croshaw himself. Allow more time for a topic-led Jimquisition episode.
- Choose your tolerance for abrasiveness. Yahtzee’s style is intentionally pointed. 3 Minute Reviews is the safer starting point if you prefer humor without the same level of verbal aggression. The Jimquisition’s intensity is directed at issues and institutions, which can feel different from a roast of a game.
- Use discovery as a filter. If you enjoy being introduced to games that might not dominate release coverage, prioritize 3 Minute Reviews. If your discovery goal is understanding recurring industry problems, prioritize The Jimquisition.
- Verify current activity. Dates matter. The 2023 description of 3 Minute Reviews and the 2008 interview about influences cannot guarantee what is being published now. Check each creator’s current channel or site before expecting a regular schedule.
- Sample more than one episode. A reviewer’s subject selection can make a single episode misleading. Watch or read several recent entries and compare whether the humor, depth and targets match what you actually want.
Common mismatches and how to avoid them
Expecting an exact replacement
Humor, review depth, subject selection and personal taste vary too much for any recommendation to be an exact substitute. A critic can share Yahtzee’s speed but not his level of negativity, or share his bluntness while focusing on business policy instead of mechanics.
Confusing a short runtime with shallow criticism
A compact episode can still make a holistic case, while a longer commentary can spend most of its time on one policy question. Judge whether the reviewer answers your question, not merely how many minutes the episode lasts.
Assuming older recommendations are still active
The Spoony Experiment and Brooker references come from a 2008 interview. They are valuable historical context, but the date is too old to support a claim about current game-review output. The same caution applies to any schedule inferred from a 2023 recommendation.
Treating a comic verdict as a buying guarantee
These programs are criticism and entertainment. A joke-heavy negative review can identify real flaws without proving that nobody will enjoy the game. Use the specific points about mechanics, design or consumer impact to decide whether those flaws matter to you.
Why sharp humor can improve criticism
Croshaw’s own explanation is useful because it joins style and substance: the appeal is that the reviews are funny and that they make valid points. A vivid comparison can reveal a pacing problem faster than a list of neutral adjectives, provided the viewer can still tell what happened in the game and why it matters.
That balance also explains why the alternatives divide into different lanes. 3 Minute Reviews emphasizes an efficient, entertaining whole. The Jimquisition emphasizes the consequences of industry decisions for customers. Fully Ramblomatic preserves Croshaw’s particular performance. None needs to imitate the others to satisfy a different part of the same audience.
Quick Recap
Bottom line for each kind of viewer
- You want short game reviews with new discoveries: try The Escapist’s 3 Minute Reviews.
- You want outspoken commentary on business and consumer issues: try The Jimquisition and read its disclosures when a topic calls for them.
- You want Yahtzee’s own current work: follow Fully Ramblomatic at Second Wind.
- You want to trace the style’s history: use the 2008 GameSpot interview as a starting point for Noah Antwiler and Charlie Brooker, then verify what those creators publish now.
