Yes—if the tool shows evidence that supports each material claim, checks whether that evidence is current and applies to the relevant product and region, and leaves final approval to a human. Treat AI-generated answers as drafts, not proof of correctness. A citation is useful only when a reviewer can inspect the cited passage and confirm that it supports the answer.
What “verification” should mean
A questionnaire tool can find and reuse information, draft responses, and attach evidence. Those capabilities make review easier, but they do not independently prove an answer is true. The organization remains responsible for what it sends.

For a meaningful check, the reviewer should be able to trace an answer to a specific policy, control, audit artifact, or approved response, then decide whether that source actually supports the claim. The evidence also needs to be current and in scope: a statement about one service, deployment, region, or customer arrangement may not answer a question about another.
AWS makes the distinction explicit in its Artifact guidance: “As with any AI-generated content, review responses in the context of your specific requirements before relying on them for official purposes.” Its assistant grounds responses in AWS compliance documentation and includes citations, but AWS still calls for requirement-specific review before official use. What current tools say they do
Product documentation describes workflows that can support review, but vendor descriptions are not independent evidence of accuracy.
- AWS Artifact Assurance Assistant: Generates responses grounded in AWS compliance documentation, provides citations, and offers review and export options, including citations in the exported spreadsheet. The cited AWS material may still need to be checked against the specific service, deployment, contract, or customer requirement. AWS documentation
- Vanta: Describes generating answers from its security-document knowledge base and previous questionnaires, with review and approval, question assignment, and tags for product and regional context. Vanta questionnaire automation
- Concord: Says drafts can draw on policies, uploaded evidence, FAQs, and approved prior responses, and that each generated answer requires human review before finalization. Concord Trust questionnaire overview
- Secfix: Describes drafts based on platform controls, evidence, documentation, and prior answers, with confidence levels and review before anything is sent. Secfix questionnaire automation
- Technolay and Wolfia: Technolay describes using approved knowledge and qualifying evidence, reusing earlier answers only when the requirement and scope remain compatible, and routing evidence gaps to relevant experts. Wolfia describes answer-level citations and routing unanswered questions to a human when it lacks evidence. Technolay; Wolfia
These descriptions show why the useful evaluation target is a reviewable decision trail—not simply a polished answer or a citation label.

How to evaluate a tool before relying on it
| What to evaluate | What to check |
|---|---|
| Evidence support | Can reviewers open the exact source passage, such as a policy, control, audit artifact, or approved answer? Does it support the actual claim? |
| Freshness and applicability | Is the source current, and does it apply to the relevant product, region, deployment, and exception state? |
| Gaps and contradictions | Does the tool flag missing, stale, or conflicting evidence and route the question to an appropriate owner instead of producing a confident unsupported answer? |
| Human accountability | Can a subject matter expert edit, assign, and approve responses, with approval retained before the answer is sent? |
| Input and output fidelity | Can it handle the customer’s actual spreadsheet, document, or portal and preserve the required structure when exporting? |
| Data governance | What company information is ingested, who can access it, and how is it handled? Ask for documentation relevant to your requirements rather than relying only on a general assurance. |
Keep review tied to the claim and its scope
For each material answer, a reviewer should check whether the cited evidence supports the wording, whether it is current, and whether it applies to the product and region named in the question. Check exceptions and conflicting material as well: a general policy statement may not establish that every relevant system follows the policy without exception.

A Reddit discussion about these tools uses the phrase “stale, contradictory, or unsupported answers” and gives an example of a policy requiring MFA while current evidence shows exceptions. That exchange illustrates a plausible review problem, but one discussion cannot establish how common it is. Discussion in r/Information_Security

Vanta’s 2026 product page reports that its AI answers an average of 80% of security questions automatically and states an acceptance rate of up to 95%. These are figures reported by the vendor, not independent accuracy results. The page also cites an IDC white paper from January 2025 reporting security reviews completed 81% faster; Vanta identifies that report as sponsored by Vanta, so it is not a neutral cross-vendor benchmark. A 2024 preprint on QuestSecure describes a retrieval-augmented approach to security-questionnaire automation. Its abstract reports qualitative improvements in accuracy and operational efficiency but gives no numerical effect size in the record cited here. It does not validate the accuracy of current commercial products. QuestSecure paper on arXiv
The available product descriptions establish that evidence-linked questionnaire workflows exist; they do not establish that any listed tool independently verifies correctness. Product features and vendor-reported figures can change, so check current documentation when comparing options.
