Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, the sequel to 2004’s Bloodlines, launched on October 21, 2025, for PC and consoles. Its major story twist is that players experience the narrative not only through Phyre, an Elder vampire in modern-day Seattle, but also through Fabien, a Malkavian detective investigating his own murder in a neo-noir 1920s Seattle.

What is the twist in Bloodlines 2?

Fabien is more than a voice in Phyre’s head: he is an additional playable narrative perspective. The game shifts between Phyre’s story in modern Seattle and Fabien’s investigation in a 1920s version of the city. The reveal was announced by co-publishers Paradox Interactive and White Wolf and developer The Chinese Room at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025.

Fabien is a Malkavian, a vampire whose fractured perception makes it difficult to separate fact from fiction. In his chapters, he uses his clan abilities as a detective to investigate his own murder. The story is framed as a contrast between two characters, eras and kinds of mystery—not as a surprise ending.

How do Phyre and Fabien’s stories differ?

Perspective Setting and role Story focus
Phyre Modern-day Seattle; an Elder vampire who wakes after centuries in torpor Navigate Kindred power struggles, uncover secrets and seek to reclaim abilities locked away by a mysterious mark
Fabien Neo-noir 1920s Seattle; a Malkavian detective Investigate his own murder while confronting the uncertainty created by his fractured perception

Fabien’s voice echoes in Phyre’s mind, linking the two strands. The launch announcement describes him as a guide who brings both insight and unease. The Chinese Room’s project creative director, Alex Skidmore, put the stakes this way: “Seattle is on the brink of an open supernatural war, and as Fabien warns, trouble comes in pairs.”

When did Bloodlines 2 come out, and where can you play it?

Bloodlines 2 launched October 21, 2025. Paradox’s launch announcement listed the game for PC and consoles; the August release-date announcement named Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It also said physical editions would be sold at select retailers. That announcement does not establish current stock, regional availability or the contents of a specific retailer’s listing, so check the platform and retailer details before buying.

What is included in the base game and physical editions?

Six playable clans in the base game

Paradox’s September 17, 2025 game overview lists Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador and Lasombra as playable clans in the base game. Earlier edition plans had placed Toreador and Lasombra among Premium Edition add-ons; the September overview superseded that framing and put both in the base game. White Wolf executive vice president and executive producer Marco Behrmann said the change followed community feedback: “Lasombra and Toreador belong in the base game, so that is what we are doing.”

Announced physical editions

Edition Contents described in the September 2025 overview
Day One Edition Base game and Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox bonus
Premium Edition Base game, Expansion Pass, character cards, journal and SteelBook case

The overview also said select retailers would offer a physical cross necklace. Retailer, platform and region can affect what is actually offered; the announcement is not confirmation that a particular edition or bonus remains available now.

What changed between the early release plans and launch?

On August 20, 2024, Paradox and The Chinese Room moved the then-planned release window to the first half of 2025. They said the additional time would support polish, quality assurance, community feedback and story expansion. The update also claimed the game would have “more than twice as many endings as its predecessor”; that was a development claim at the time, not an independently verified final ending count or the final release date.
