Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on Nintendo Switch 2 trades some visual detail and loading speed for portability. Its standard frame-rate target is 30 fps, with optional frame generation that makes motion look closer to 60 fps; that is not the same as rendering 60 native frames each second. On base PS5, a post-launch update has improved the comparison: Push Square reports Performance mode reaches 60 fps and stays there more often than not. Available reporting supports a qualitative comparison, not a precise, matched-scene resolution test.
What the Switch 2–PS5 comparison shows
The comparison is between the October 9, 2026 release, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, and the PS5 edition after its recent performance update—not just the original 2024 game build. Capcom says the Switch 2 release combines the main game and expansion in one package. It is also available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For visuals, Nintendo Life’s review of the retail Switch 2 version reports a visible downgrade compared with PS5 Pro, including longer loading and occasional choppy moments that were more apparent while docked. RPG Site’s pre-release hands-on described reduced textures, models, level of detail, and draw distance, as well as upscaling from a lower resolution. Those are attributed observations from different outlets and conditions, not a controlled Switch 2-versus-base-PS5 comparison.
That distinction matters: the Switch 2 visual review used PS5 Pro as its comparison point, while the updated performance report separately tests base PS5. The evidence here does not establish exact internal or output resolution for Switch 2, nor a directly comparable PS5 resolution figure. It would be misleading to claim pixel-for-pixel parity or give a numerical resolution comparison.

Frame rate: generated 60 fps-like motion versus PS5 Performance mode
Switch 2
Producer Naoto Oyama said the Switch 2 version targets a base frame rate of 30 fps in both handheld and TV modes. The game offers optional frame generation: it interpolates frames to create motion described as equivalent to 60 fps. It does not turn the underlying 30 fps target into native 60 fps rendering. Oyama also acknowledged that frame generation can cause slight ghosting in some situations. Nintendo Life’s report of Oyama’s Famitsu interview is the source for those statements.
Nintendo Life reports that the retail build includes a locked 30 fps option, a variable-frame-rate option, and an FSR 3 frame-generation toggle. Its reviewer found the variable-frame-rate option best overall, while also noting occasional choppiness, particularly docked. These are one reviewer’s impressions rather than instrumented frame-time measurements.

Base PS5
After Title Update 3.2, Push Square reports that base PS5 Performance mode reaches 60 fps and holds there more often than not, including in crowded Vernworth. This is a meaningful improvement to the PS5 baseline, but it is an outlet’s test result—not a promise that every scene remains locked at 60 fps. Push Square’s separate PS5 Pro observations should not be mistaken for base PS5 results. Read Push Square’s post-update testing.

RPG Site’s hands-on noted cuts to textures, models, level of detail, and draw distance on Switch 2. Nintendo Life also judged the Switch 2 version visibly downgraded against PS5 Pro. These reports indicate where concessions may be noticeable, but neither supplies a matched-scene measurement against base PS5.

Loading and frame pacing
Nintendo Life and RPG Site both observed longer loading on Switch 2; Nintendo Life specifically mentions Pawn rifts and cutscene transitions. Nintendo Life also describes occasional choppy moments, more apparent docked. Do not infer a universal loading-time difference or a numerical frame-rate range from these qualitative accounts.
Handheld play
Switch 2’s clearest advantage in this comparison is that the full game can be played portably. Oyama’s stated 30 fps target applies to both handheld and TV play; the available review notes do not establish that one mode has a different resolution or performance target.

Which version should you choose?
- Choose Switch 2 if playing on the go is central to your decision and you accept visual concessions, longer loading, and a 30 fps base target. Frame generation is optional and may produce ghosting in difficult cases.
- Choose base PS5 if you want a stronger performance baseline on a television. Following Title Update 3.2, an outlet’s testing found Performance mode at 60 fps more often than not.
- Do not choose based on a claimed resolution number. The available reports do not provide a reliable, matched-scene resolution comparison between Switch 2 and base PS5.
Switch 2 download and storage details
Capcom’s Japanese store identifies the Switch 2 package as a key card and says first play requires an internet connection and at least 58 GB of free storage; updates may require additional space. Nintendo UK lists a 49.6 GB download size. These figures come from different regional listings and describe different things, so check the listing for your market before buying.
