The spin-off keeps the familiar world and characters but replaces dodging enemy waves with building a deck, sequencing cards for combos, and exploring multi-floor dungeons.
How the games differ
| What you’re comparing | Vampire Survivors | Vampire Crawlers |
|---|---|---|
| Relationship | The original game and setting. | An official spin-off sharing the world, characters, items, and in-jokes. poncle founder Luca Galante described it as a spin-off, not a sequel. Source: poncle |
| Core play | Real-time, top-down survival action focused on enduring waves of enemies. Xbox Wire describes it as “reverse bullet hell.” Source: Xbox Wire interview | Turn-based roguelite deckbuilding and dungeon crawling: play cards to fight, build a deck, and explore between battles. Source: Steam |
| Combat decisions | Survive as the action and enemy pressure build during a run. | Play cards in ascending mana order to chain and amplify effects. Wild cards and card customization can extend combos, and you can choose how quickly to play turns. Source: Steam |
| Exploration | The defining focus is action and survival rather than the grid-based dungeon movement described for Crawlers. | First-person, grid-based movement through multi-floor dungeons with walls, treasure, and interactions. Source: Xbox Wire interview Source: Nintendo |
What stays familiar—and what changes
The connection is the setting and the recognizable characters, items, and humor. The design changes substantially: Crawlers applies the series’ accessible, immediate, replayable approach to a different genre instead of simply offering another version of Survivors. Galante summed up its premise in an Xbox Wire interview: “Jokes aside, this game is just a dungeon crawler you play with cards!” Read the interview.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose Vampire Survivors if you want immediate real-time action, escalating enemy waves, and survival-run momentum.
- Choose Vampire Crawlers if card sequencing, tactical turn-based combat, and active dungeon exploration sound more appealing than constant action.
Those preferences follow from the games’ official descriptions; they are not a claim that one is a direct replacement for the other.

#1 Best Overall
poncle’s 2026 FAQ estimates 20–30 hours to complete Crawlers, with a bit longer if you pursue every unlock. That is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured playtime. The FAQ gives $9.99 as the US launch price; it is a launch reference, not a guaranteed current price.
