His camp is selected from several possible world locations, so there is no universal coordinate. The first candidate camp you approach becomes the permanent Haldor location for that world, and the trader icon appears on your map after discovery. This guide explains how that system works, what every listed item costs, which purchases are gated by The Elder, and how to plan your Coins.

Where Haldor is found
Haldor’s biome is the Black Forest. His camp is not placed at one fixed coordinate shared by every seed. The trader system generates multiple candidate locations, but only one candidate becomes Haldor’s active camp in a given world.

The selection happens when you approach a possible camp. That discovery permanently places Haldor at that location for the world, and a trader icon is then added to the world map. Because the first candidate you discover controls the result, two players using different seeds—or even the same seed but exploring in a different order—may end up using different routes to reach him.
What the 1,500-metre rule means
A 2026 guide from thevalheim.wiki reports that Haldor’s possible camps start at least 1,500 metres from the world centre. Treat this as a placement rule for candidate camps, not as a guaranteed walking distance from your spawn point. Your character may spawn away from the exact world centre, and terrain, water and mountains can make the practical journey longer.
Why a universal coordinate cannot be given
A coordinate copied from another world is not a reliable destination. Even a seed map that displays every possible route cannot know which candidate your character has already activated. Once one candidate is discovered, the other possibilities no longer matter for that world’s Haldor location.
How to find Haldor step by step
- Move toward the Black Forest. Haldor’s biome is fixed, but his camp location is world-specific.
- Search candidate areas rather than one remembered coordinate. The placement rule reported by thevalheim.wiki puts possible camps at least 1,500 metres from the world centre; use that as a broad planning boundary, not a promised route length.
- Watch for the trader marker as you approach a candidate. The first candidate location you discover becomes the permanent active camp in that world.
- Open the world map after discovery. Haldor’s trader icon appears once the location has been discovered, giving you a dependable marker for future visits.
- Use the discovered marker for return trips. If you were hoping to use a different candidate, discovering the first one has already fixed the trader’s location for that world.
Seed maps can still help you understand possible routes, but they should be treated as planning aids. They cannot override the in-game selection rule or reveal which candidate your character has already activated.

Haldor’s current inventory and prices
The ValheimHub inventory table is labelled “Verified for Valheim 1.0” and reports nine purchases. Prices below are in-game Coins.
| Item | Price | Availability listed by the cited tables | Primary use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yule Hat | 100 Coins | Always available | Cosmetic headwear |
| Dverger Circlet | 620 Coins | Always available | Wearable light source |
| Megingjord | 950 Coins | Always available | Adds 150 carry weight |
| Ymir Flesh | 120 Coins | Available after defeating The Elder | Trader material; unlock timing is boss-gated |
| Fishing Rod | 350 Coins | Always available | Enables fishing |
| Fishing Bait | 10 Coins | Always available | Required to use the Fishing Rod |
| Thunder Stone | 50 Coins | Available after defeating The Elder | Required to build an Obliterator |
| Egg | 1,500 Coins | Not stated in the cited availability summary | Listed purchase; the cited table does not specify an unlock condition |
| Barrel Hoops | 100 Coins | Not stated in the cited availability summary | Listed purchase; the cited table does not specify an unlock condition |
Buying one of every item in this nine-item list would require 3,800 Coins, calculated from the listed prices. That total does not imply that every player should buy everything; several purchases are cosmetic or depend on whether you use the associated system.
What each Haldor item does
Yule Hat — 100 Coins
The Yule Hat is listed as always available and is primarily cosmetic. At 100 Coins, it is one of the least expensive purchases, but it does not provide the carry-capacity, lighting or progression utility associated with other items in the inventory. Buy it when appearance or collecting matters more to you than expedition efficiency.
Dverger Circlet — 620 Coins
The Dverger Circlet is listed as always available and functions as a light source when worn. It costs 620 Coins, so it sits well below Megingjord but above the hat, bait and the two 100-Coin purchases. Its value depends on how often you want hands-free illumination while exploring or working in dark areas.

Megingjord — 950 Coins
Megingjord is the major general-purpose utility purchase. The cited Valheim Wiki page records a 150-point increase to the inventory carry-weight limit. That extra capacity applies to every expedition in which you wear it, making the item useful for gathering, mining, construction trips and long-distance transport. It is listed as always available and costs 950 Coins.
Ymir Flesh — 120 Coins
Ymir Flesh costs 120 Coins. The cited Haldor table marks it as available after defeating The Elder, so an early visit may show the item as unavailable even when you have enough Coins. The price is low compared with the rod, circlet, Megingjord and egg, but the important planning detail is the post-Elder gate.
Fishing Rod — 350 Coins
The Fishing Rod costs 350 Coins and is listed as always available. It enables fishing, but the rod is not a complete fishing purchase by itself: Fishing Bait is separately listed as required for the rod.
Fishing Bait — 10 Coins
Fishing Bait costs 10 Coins and is also listed as always available. Because bait is required for the Fishing Rod, include it in your fishing budget instead of treating the 350-Coin rod price as the entire entry cost. The amount of bait you buy should match how central fishing is to your food plan.

Thunder Stone costs 50 Coins and is listed as available after defeating The Elder. Its stated purpose is building the Obliterator. If you are not yet ready to construct that device, the item can wait; if you are preparing an Obliterator, the low price makes it an easy post-Elder purchase once the gate has opened.
Egg — 1,500 Coins
The Egg is the most expensive item in the cited list at 1,500 Coins. The supplied availability summary does not state whether it is always available or tied to a specific boss or progression condition, so do not assume an unlock rule beyond what your current game displays. Its price alone makes it a substantial savings target.

Barrel Hoops — 100 Coins
Barrel Hoops are listed at 100 Coins. The cited availability summary does not specify an unlock condition. At the same price as the Yule Hat, this is a low-cost purchase for players who want the item, but the available evidence does not establish a separate utility effect.
Which item should you buy first?
There is no universal best order. The sensible priority changes with whether you haul materials, fish for food, build an Obliterator or simply want cosmetic items. The following order is an editorial decision framework based on the documented item uses, not a claim that every character should follow it exactly.
1. Megingjord for general expeditions
For most players, Megingjord is the strongest first major utility purchase. Its 150 additional carry weight improves every trip in which you wear it, rather than helping only one specialized activity. Save 950 Coins if your main frustration is leaving resources behind or making repeated hauling runs.
2. Fishing Rod plus Bait for a fishing-based food plan
Choose the Fishing Rod when fishing is part of your regular food plan. Budget 350 Coins for the rod and at least 10 Coins for bait, because bait is required to use it. Players who will not fish can defer both purchases without delaying the carry-capacity upgrade.
3. Dverger Circlet for wearable light
The Dverger Circlet is a practical lighting purchase at 620 Coins. It is a stronger priority for players who value a wearable light source than for players who already have a preferred way to illuminate their work and exploration.
4. Thunder Stone after The Elder when an Obliterator is planned
Thunder Stone is both inexpensive and gated. The cited table places it after The Elder, and its documented role is building an Obliterator. Buy it when that construction project is actually part of your next progression step rather than spending scarce early Coins on a locked item.

5. Ymir Flesh after the boss gate opens
Ymir Flesh costs only 120 Coins, but it is also listed as post-Elder. Once available, it is a modest purchase that can fit into the same visit as Thunder Stone if you have the required funds.
6. Cosmetics and unspecified-use purchases
The Yule Hat and Barrel Hoops each cost 100 Coins, while the Egg costs 1,500 Coins. The hat is identified as cosmetic; the cited summary does not establish an unlock condition for Barrel Hoops or the Egg. Treat these as preference-driven purchases and avoid delaying a utility item you will use constantly merely to complete the collection.
How to build a Coin budget
Haldor’s prices are fixed amounts in the cited inventory table, but your available funds depend on what you sell. The trader reference gives these values for valuable items:
| Item sold | Coins received per item | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Amber | 5 Coins | Sold valuables cannot be bought back |
| Amber pearl | 10 Coins | Sold valuables cannot be bought back |
| Ruby | 20 Coins | Sold valuables cannot be bought back |
| Silver necklace | 30 Coins | Sold valuables cannot be bought back |
The irreversible-sale rule is the key risk: once a valuable item is sold to a trader, it cannot be bought back. Before confirming a sale, separate items you may want to keep from items you are certain you no longer need. If your goal is Megingjord, compare your current Coin balance with the 950-Coin price and sell only enough valuables to close that gap.
Example budgets
- Carry-focused trip: reserve 950 Coins for Megingjord before spending on cosmetics.
- Fishing setup: reserve 350 Coins for the rod, then add 10 Coins or more for bait; the required amount of bait depends on how much fishing you intend to do.
- Obliterator preparation: after The Elder, reserve 50 Coins for Thunder Stone. The cited table does not list an additional Thunder Stone cost beyond that purchase.
- Complete listed inventory: the nine prices add up to 3,800 Coins, but the total includes items whose utility may not matter to your character.
Unlock timing and what to check when an item is missing
The cited Haldor table divides several purchases by progression:
- Listed as always available: Yule Hat, Dverger Circlet, Megingjord, Fishing Rod and Fishing Bait.
- Listed as available after defeating The Elder: Ymir Flesh and Thunder Stone.
- Availability not stated in the supplied summary: Egg and Barrel Hoops.
If Ymir Flesh or Thunder Stone is absent before The Elder, that matches the documented gate rather than indicating a failed trader discovery. If either remains unavailable after the boss defeat, verify that the game recognizes the defeat and that you are checking the actual active Haldor camp. For Egg and Barrel Hoops, the cited information does not establish a progression requirement, so rely on the inventory state shown by your game rather than inferring one.

Troubleshooting Haldor location problems
No trader icon appears
The icon appears after discovery, not before. Continue searching candidate Black Forest locations until you approach one closely enough to activate the camp. A map without the icon does not provide a universal coordinate to follow.
A seed map points to several camps
That is expected. Multiple candidates can exist, while only one becomes active for your world. The first candidate you discover is the one that matters; the map cannot determine which location your character has already selected.
You found Haldor but cannot remember the route
Reopen the world map and use the trader icon added at discovery. The marker is the reliable reference for later visits, regardless of how complicated the original journey was.
An item is listed but cannot be purchased
Check three things in order: your Coin balance, the item’s availability category, and the progression state of your world. Ymir Flesh and Thunder Stone are documented as post-Elder purchases. Egg and Barrel Hoops have no unlock condition stated in the cited summary, so do not assign them an unverified gate.
You sold something by mistake
The trader reference states that valuable items sold to traders cannot be bought back. Treat the transaction as permanent and plan future sales conservatively. The documented recovery is not a repurchase; prevention is the practical safeguard.

Quick Recap
Haldor checklist
- Search the Black Forest; Haldor has no single world-wide coordinate.
- Remember that the first candidate camp you approach permanently selects the trader location for that world.
- Use the map icon added after discovery for every return trip.
- Use 1,500 metres from the world centre only as a candidate-placement guideline, not a guaranteed distance from spawn.
- Prioritize Megingjord if you want the broadest expedition benefit: it adds 150 carry weight and costs 950 Coins.
- Buy the Fishing Rod for 350 Coins only when fishing fits your plan, and budget 10 Coins or more for required bait.
- Wait until after The Elder for the documented Ymir Flesh and Thunder Stone unlocks.
- Remember that Thunder Stone costs 50 Coins and is used to build an Obliterator.
- Before selling Amber, Amber pearl, Ruby or Silver necklace, confirm that you will not need them; sold valuables cannot be bought back.
