You can use an eligible ChatGPT Plus or Pro plan in some third-party apps by signing in with ChatGPT and separately allowing that app to use your plan for eligible AI requests. Start the process in the app, choose Sign in with ChatGPT or Continue with ChatGPT, then review the account details and any plan-use request. Signing in alone does not authorize plan usage, and you do not need to create or share an API key. OpenAI’s guidance on using a ChatGPT plan in other apps and sites explains the flow; availability depends on the app and account.
Sign in and authorize plan use separately
There are two different choices in this process. ChatGPT sign-in lets you use your ChatGPT identity to access a participating app. A separate authorization, if offered, lets eligible AI requests from that app count toward usage included in your ChatGPT plan.

The app must support plan usage, not merely ChatGPT sign-in. OpenAI’s developer documentation describes commercial availability as limited to selected partners. The official app directory distinguishes apps that support plan usage from those that support sign-in only. Listings and eligibility can change.

- Open the app or website where you want to use the plan.
- Choose its ChatGPT sign-in option. Select Sign in with ChatGPT or Continue with ChatGPT if offered.
- Sign in to the intended ChatGPT account. Check that it is the account with the Plus or Pro plan you want to use.
- Review the sign-in request. Confirm what account information the app will receive. If a separate option asks to use your ChatGPT plan, choose whether to allow it. You can complete sign-in without enabling plan usage.
- Check the app’s account or billing settings if you already signed in and need to review or change its plan-use choice.
- Set a usage limit in ChatGPT. Review app usage and the weekly limit in ChatGPT settings before relying on the integration.
- Review the app’s own terms and pricing. The app may charge separately for its service or features.
Understand usage limits, credits, and charges
When an app is authorized, eligible requests draw on usage included in your ChatGPT plan. ChatGPT settings show usage attributed to each app and let you set a weekly limit for it. That limit is a cap on the app’s share of your overall usage, not a separate allowance or a reserve of usage. An app can reach its cap while you still have overall plan usage available. Check the reset information in settings; signing in again or retrying does not restore usage already consumed.

Some accounts may offer the option to use credits for participating apps after included usage is exhausted. Credit use requires a separate opt-in and is subject to account eligibility and available credits. The setting applies across participating apps, subject to each app’s limits. An app must have a 100% usage limit to be eligible to use credits, but setting that limit does not itself turn on credit use. Automatic credit purchases are a separate control, and a lower app limit prevents that app from using credits.
The third-party app may also charge for its own subscription, infrastructure, services, or premium features. If it cannot use your plan or credits, it does not automatically switch to another paid option, according to OpenAI’s guidance. Check the app’s price and billing terms before proceeding.

Know what the app receives
For ChatGPT sign-in, OpenAI says the app receives basic account details: your name, email address, and profile picture if you have one. Sign-in does not independently share your ChatGPT conversations, memories, files, tokens, or billing information. Allowing plan usage does not by itself grant access to your conversations or memories, and it does not share an API key.
An app can request additional data or permissions separately. Review each request and the app’s privacy information rather than treating sign-in approval as blanket consent. OpenAI’s guide to using a ChatGPT plan in other apps and its sign-in guidance describe these boundaries.

Plan usage is tied to the account holder. OpenAI’s September 29, 2026 Terms of Use prohibit enabling or encouraging another person to use your subscription for their requests, and prohibit pooling, transferring, reselling, gifting, or sharing plan usage except as expressly permitted by the terms.

The app says your account is not eligible
- Confirm you signed in with the ChatGPT account that has the intended plan.
- Check whether plan usage is supported on the app’s plan; some apps support sign-in only.
- Check the app directory and its own requirements. Eligibility can also depend on region, account, and plan.
- If you use a managed workspace, administrator settings may constrain access. OpenAI’s plan-usage guidance and sign-in guidance cover these conditions.
Sign-in works, but requests do not use your plan
Check whether you separately allowed plan usage; sign-in alone is not enough. If you opted in, review the app’s weekly cap and your overall plan usage in ChatGPT settings.

You want to stop an app from using the plan
Review the app controls in ChatGPT settings and disconnect the app if that control is available. Disconnecting does not undo usage already recorded. The app may also retain its own signed-in session, so sign out inside the app if you want to end that session too.

Support for a capability in ChatGPT or through the OpenAI API does not guarantee that the capability works through plan usage in a third-party app. Check the app’s own documentation and permissions.
