Yes—you can send JSON-RPC requests to a remote service instead of operating a node yourself, provided it supports your chain, network, and required methods. Documentation reviewed describes hosted Bitcoin and Litecoin access, but does not establish a hosted Decred endpoint. A remote endpoint also means relying on another party’s node and data.
What remote JSON-RPC does—and what it does not
JSON-RPC is an interface served by a chain daemon. If your application does not run that daemon, it needs to connect to a node operated by someone else or use another documented interface. The service must support the calls your application actually makes; support for one chain or method does not imply support for another.

A hosted RPC endpoint gives your application a way to request data or invoke supported operations. It does not, by itself, mean the provider supplies a wallet, holds keys, or supports transaction signing. Those capabilities and custody arrangements must be established separately.

| Chain | Documented interface details | Hosted coverage established |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | Bitcoin Core documents a root JSON-RPC endpoint and a wallet-specific /wallet/<walletname>/ endpoint for wallet requests when multiple wallets are loaded. RPC behavior can change between major releases. |
Bloq documentation describes Bitcoin nodes accessible through REST and JSON-RPC, including mainnet and testnet. This does not establish current availability or service terms. |
| Litecoin | Litecoin Core maintains JSON-RPC for its daemon. Its documentation says RPC is enabled by default for the headless daemon and disabled by default for the GUI unless enabled. | Bloq documentation describes Litecoin mainnet access through REST and JSON-RPC. This does not establish current availability or service terms. |
| Decred | dcrd provides chain-related JSON-RPC; wallet-related functionality is provided through dcrwallet. Decred documents HTTP POST and WebSockets, with WebSockets preferred in the dcrd documentation. |
A hosted Decred endpoint was not established by the provider documentation reviewed. That does not prove none exists. |
Decred requires choosing the right RPC service
Decred describes the dcrd JSON-RPC API as compatible with the original bitcoind/bitcoin-qt API. Compatibility does not guarantee identical method coverage or wallet behavior. Check the method reference for the specific call, and determine whether it belongs to dcrd or requires dcrwallet.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
Decred’s documentation says RPC uses TLS by default when configured, and the RPC server does not run until credentials are configured. For a remote service, confirm its own transport and authentication requirements rather than assuming they match a self-operated daemon.
Protect RPC credentials and access
Bitcoin Core’s JSON-RPC security guidance says: “Do not enable RPC connections over the public Internet.” It warns that authentication does not encrypt traffic, so credentials can be exposed on the network path. The project recommends limiting remote access to secure private networks or securing the connection with a method such as VPN or SSH/stunnel port forwarding.

Litecoin Core likewise warns about remote RPC exposure and the protocol’s lack of encryption. A hosted endpoint is a separate service, so assess its transport and authentication independently; do not assume that a provider’s connection is safe merely because it requires credentials.

- Chain and network: Confirm the exact chain and network, such as Bitcoin mainnet or testnet, and verify that the endpoint serves it.
- Methods and version: Match each required method to the provider’s supported API and daemon version. Bitcoin Core specifically notes that RPC behavior may change between major releases.
- Wallet needs: Establish whether your application needs chain-only calls or wallet functionality, and whether signing or key custody is involved.
- Connection and authentication: Get the endpoint, credentials, allowed transport, and connection instructions from the provider. Do not infer them from another chain’s configuration.
- Operational limits: Confirm quotas, throughput, uptime and support commitments, and how outages are handled.
- Privacy and terms: Ask how requests are logged, how long data is retained, and what current commercial terms apply. The Bloq documentation described here does not establish those details.
What the hosted-provider documentation establishes
Bloq documentation describes hosted Bitcoin and Litecoin nodes with REST and JSON-RPC interfaces, and includes an HTTP POST example using node credentials. That establishes a documented path for those two chains, not current plan availability, pricing, service-level commitments, or Decred support. Confirm current coverage and terms directly with any provider before building around it.
