You can change an Android phone’s sound mode from a paired Windows 11 PC with Microsoft Phone Link: press Ctrl + Shift + V to cycle through volume on, vibrate, and volume off. If you want Android’s Do Not Disturb rules instead, use Ctrl + Shift + D; it is a separate control.
What the Phone Link controls do
Microsoft’s Phone Link keyboard-shortcuts documentation lists two Android-only controls:

- Ctrl + Shift + V: “Volume on /Vibrate mode/ Volume off.” Press it repeatedly to cycle through those sound modes.
- Ctrl + Shift + D: “Do not disturb on/off.” This toggles Do Not Disturb; it does not cycle the ringer through the volume and vibrate modes.
Use the volume shortcut when you want to change the ringer mode. Use Do Not Disturb when you want Android to apply its interruption rules. Phone Link features can vary by phone, so a control may not be available on every device.

Pair your Android phone with Windows 11
If the phone is not already connected, Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup guide lists Windows 11, Android 10 or later, and both devices on the same Wi-Fi network among the requirements. You also need to use the same Microsoft account in Phone Link on the PC and Link to Windows on the phone.

- Open Phone Link on your Windows 11 PC and choose Android.
- Follow the pairing prompts. Depending on the setup flow, you can pair using a QR code or manual instructions.
- On the Android phone, open or install Link to Windows, then sign in with the same Microsoft account and complete the prompts.
- When setup is complete, open the phone’s device controls in Phone Link.
Change the ringer mode from the PC
- Open Phone Link and select the paired Android phone.
- Use the phone’s volume or sound-mode control, or press Ctrl + Shift + V.
- Press the shortcut again as needed to move through volume on, vibrate, and volume off. Check the phone’s displayed status or sound mode to confirm the result.
The shortcut is documented as an Android control. If it does not work, confirm Phone Link is connected to the intended phone and use the phone’s own sound controls as a fallback.
Use Do Not Disturb instead
To toggle Android Do Not Disturb from Phone Link, press Ctrl + Shift + D. DND can manage interruptions according to the phone’s settings, whereas the volume shortcut changes the phone’s sound mode. Choose the control that matches what you want to silence.

If the control is missing or does not respond
Check Android’s DND access and modes
On Android 15 or later, another app or mode may manage Do Not Disturb, or access for Link to Windows may be disabled. On the phone, look under Settings > Do Not Disturb > Mode or Schedules (the path varies by device). If a Link to Windows toggle is available, enable it, and review other modes that may be controlling DND.

If Phone Link controls are absent or behaving unexpectedly, check for updates to Phone Link in Windows and Link to Windows on Android. Microsoft’s Phone Link troubleshooting guide recommends updating the apps when an update is required. For broader calling or notification problems, also check the Android phone’s sound settings and whether Do Not Disturb is enabled.

Change the setting on the phone
If you cannot use the PC control, Google’s Android guide to Modes and Do Not Disturb describes a direct option: swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Do Not Disturb in Quick Settings. You can also look under Settings > Modes > Do Not Disturb. Menu names and available steps can vary by device; some instructions in Google’s guide apply only to Android 14 or later.
