You can’t use a Samsung Galaxy phone as a Windows PC’s second monitor with Samsung’s documented Second Screen feature: that feature sends a PC display to a supported Galaxy tablet. If you need a larger screen for your phone, Samsung DeX sends the phone’s interface to a separate TV or monitor—the opposite direction. Here’s how to choose the right setup and configure the supported options.
Which Samsung feature does what?
The key is the direction of the connection. Samsung documents Second Screen for a Windows PC sending its display to a supported Galaxy tablet. DeX sends a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet’s desktop-like interface to an external TV or monitor. Link to Windows and Microsoft Phone Link connect phone content to a Windows PC; they do not make the phone a PC display.

Use a Galaxy tablet as a Windows second screen
Samsung’s documented Second Screen setup is for supported tablets, not phones. Its Korea support article, dated December 6, 2024, lists tablets running One UI 5.1.1 or later, including Galaxy Tab S7, S8, S9, S10 and S11 families and selected Tab A and Tab Active models. Regional availability and exact model support can vary, so check the current list in Samsung’s instructions before you start.

Check the PC requirements
- Samsung recommends a Galaxy Book running Windows 11 version 24H2 or later.
- The PC’s wireless adapter, graphics hardware and drivers must support Wireless Display.
- Samsung says Second Screen is optimized for Samsung computers; behavior can vary with other PC models and manufacturers.
Connect the tablet
- On the tablet, open the Quick Panel and turn on Second Screen.
- On the Windows PC, install or open the Second Screen app. Samsung’s article points to the Microsoft Store for the app.
- Choose the tablet from the available-device list on the PC, then select whether to extend or duplicate the display as needed.
Samsung also describes an experimental USB connection for this tablet workflow. It requires Windows 11 version 24H2 on the PC and One UI 7.0 or later on the tablet. It is not a method for connecting a Galaxy phone as a monitor.

Show a Galaxy phone on a TV or monitor with DeX
If your goal is to use a larger screen with your phone, DeX may fit. It connects a compatible Galaxy phone to a separate display; it does not make the phone itself the display. Check your exact phone model and connection method against Samsung’s DeX compatibility information.
Wired DeX setup
- Connect the phone’s USB-C port to the TV or monitor’s HDMI input using a DeX cable, HDMI cable or standard USB-C-to-HDMI adapter.
- When prompted, start DeX. You can also use the DeX control in Quick Settings.
- If the display initially mirrors the phone instead, select the DeX notification or icon to switch to the DeX interface.

Wireless DeX setup
Samsung lists 2018-or-later Samsung TVs, Samsung Smart Monitors and other Miracast-capable devices as wireless DeX targets, subject to phone or tablet model compatibility. The exact devices and available modes depend on the Galaxy model; verify support before troubleshooting the TV or buying an adapter.

For Galaxy mobile devices on One UI 7 or later, Samsung says PC connectivity uses Link to Windows and Phone Link. These let you use phone mirroring and individual apps on the PC, but do not provide the former DeX-for-PC Android desktop experience. Samsung’s US support material, reviewed October 7, 2026, says DeX for PC is no longer supported on models running One UI 7 or later; consult its current model-specific compatibility details before following older PC connection instructions. Some older Flip models and the Z Flip7 FE are also excluded from specified DeX modes.

Choose the setup that matches your goal
- Need more Windows desktop space? Use Second Screen with a supported Galaxy tablet, or another compatible receiving display. Samsung’s documented Galaxy mobile-device alternative is not a phone-as-monitor setup.
- Want phone apps on your Windows computer? Set up Link to Windows and Phone Link, subject to your phone’s software and model support.
- Want a desktop-like view of your phone on a big screen? Check DeX compatibility and connect the phone to a supported TV or monitor by cable or wirelessly.
