Short answer: Urlbox is the more direct fit when your application mainly sends a URL or HTML and needs rendered output. Browserless is the broader choice when screenshots are one part of a workflow that also needs a managed browser session, Puppeteer or Playwright, or a self-hosted deployment. For a screenshot-focused alternative to try first, ScreenshotNeo combines a one-request capture API with consent-banner and popup cleanup; whether it fits depends on your output and workflow requirements.
There is no documented universal winner for screenshot quality. Test representative pages—especially long, lazy-loaded pages and pages with sticky elements—before committing. The feature and price details below reflect the vendors’ published pages as observed on October 3, 2026; verify volatile terms before implementation or purchase.
How Urlbox and Browserless differ
The main distinction is workflow scope, not a proven difference in screenshot quality. Urlbox presents a rendering API for URLs or HTML, with several output types and synchronous or asynchronous request modes. Browserless offers a screenshot REST endpoint within a managed-browser platform that also supports browser connections and other REST or GraphQL APIs.
| Question | Urlbox | Browserless |
|---|---|---|
| What is the documented product shape? | A hosted rendering API for URL or HTML input, with screenshots and other output types. Urlbox product page | A managed headless-browser platform with REST and GraphQL APIs and Puppeteer or Playwright connections. Browserless overview |
| How do full-page captures work? | Documents stitch mode, which scrolls, triggers animations and lazy-loaded elements, freezes fixed and sticky elements, and stitches captured sections. Its native mode uses browser-native full-page capture and is described as faster, but may not work well on every site. Urlbox screenshots documentation |
Documents full-page screenshots and a scrollPage option for triggering lazy-loaded content before capture. The documentation does not establish identical sticky-element handling to Urlbox’s stitch mode. Browserless Screenshot API |
| Is selector capture documented? | Yes. The screenshots documentation describes capturing a CSS selector. Urlbox screenshots documentation | Yes. The screenshot endpoint documents selector-based element screenshots. Browserless Screenshot API |
| What output types are documented? | The product page lists screenshots, PDFs, videos, and structured data. Check the specific request mode and output requirements before building against it. Urlbox product page | The screenshot endpoint documents PNG, JPEG, or WebP image responses. Other output or rendering tasks are documented under separate platform endpoints. Screenshot API and REST APIs |
| What deployment choices are documented? | The reviewed product page describes hosted API options and includes enterprise and on-premise language. Confirm requirements and terms with Urlbox if infrastructure or data location is decisive. Urlbox product page | Cloud and Docker self-hosting are described. Shared cloud fleets use regional endpoints; private deployments have account-specific endpoints. Overview and Connection URLs |
These are documented capabilities, not independent test results. The available sources do not establish that either service is faster or more accurate across websites.

Which service fits your screenshot workflow?
Choose Urlbox when rendering is the central task
Urlbox is a natural fit to evaluate if your application needs to submit a URL or HTML and receive a rendered artifact, rather than maintain an interactive browser session. Its documented request modes include synchronous and asynchronous rendering, webhooks, and secure render links. Its output list extends beyond images, but confirm the exact endpoint and mode for the artifact you need.
For long pages, compare its two documented strategies against your targets. stitch is aimed at accuracy and handles scrolling, lazy content, animations, and fixed or sticky elements as part of the capture process. native is aimed at speed but may be unsuitable for some sites. For a horizontally scrolling page, the documentation describes full_width to use the scrollable width; element capture can target a CSS selector. See Urlbox screenshot options.
Choose Browserless when the screenshot is part of browser automation
Browserless is worth evaluating when the same job needs more than a single render request—for example, an existing Puppeteer or Playwright workflow, a managed browser connection, or a cloud-versus-Docker deployment choice. Its POST /screenshot endpoint covers screenshot requests, while other platform endpoints and browser connections address broader automation needs.

- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
Before implementing, determine whether you will use a shared cloud fleet or a private deployment. Browserless documents regional endpoints for shared cloud fleets and account-specific endpoints for private deployments, so use the connection instructions for your actual account and deployment rather than copying a generic endpoint. Browserless connection URLs.
Try ScreenshotNeo first if you want a screenshot-focused API with cleanup
ScreenshotNeo is another option when the job is to request an image or PDF without building a browser session. It accepts a URL through one GET request, can remove more than 60 known consent platforms along with newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, and reports page verdict and billing status in response headers. Its MCP server offers screenshot tools for AI agents. These features may be useful when clean captures and clear billing outcomes matter; they do not replace a programmable browser session for workflows that need one. See ScreenshotNeo and its API documentation.
Compare the capture behavior on your own pages
Documentation identifies available controls, but it cannot predict how every target site behaves. Run the same representative URLs through each candidate and inspect the output for the cases that matter to your application.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Crisp HD 720p/30 fps video calls with diagonal 55° field of view and auto light correction. Compatible with popular platforms including Skype and Zoom.
- The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
- C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
- Viewport versus full page: Decide whether consumers need only the visible viewport, the full document, or a particular element. A full-page output can differ from what a user sees at one screen position.
- Lazy-loaded content: Include pages where images or sections appear only after scrolling. Urlbox documents scroll-and-stitch behavior; Browserless documents
scrollPageto trigger lazy loading. - Sticky and fixed elements: Check for repeated headers, floating controls, or gaps in long captures. Urlbox describes freezing sticky and fixed elements in stitch mode; do not assume the same behavior from another mode or service without testing.
- Long or horizontally scrolling pages: Verify the final dimensions, section order, and whether content beyond the initial viewport is present. Urlbox documents
full_widthfor scrollable page width. - Selector captures: Test selectors against pages where the target can be absent, delayed, or repeated. Decide how your application should handle a missing or ambiguous element.
- Output and downstream use: Check file format and quality, PDF or video needs, and how the resulting artifact is delivered to your application.
Keep the sample set stable and inspect actual output files, not just successful HTTP responses. Record failures and retries as well as successful captures so the comparison reflects your workload rather than a single easy page.
Understand the published pricing models
The prices below are listings on the vendors’ official pricing pages observed on October 3, 2026, not guarantees of future terms. Urlbox lists render-count plans; Browserless lists browser-time units, so the quotas are not equivalent measures.
| Service and plan | Published price and allowance | Metering or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Urlbox Lo-Fi | $19/month; up to 2,000 renders | Pricing page says prices exclude VAT. Urlbox pricing |
| Urlbox Hi-Fi | $49/month; up to 5,000 renders | Pricing page says prices exclude VAT. Urlbox pricing |
| Urlbox Ultra | $99/month; up to 15,000 renders | Pricing page says prices exclude VAT. Business and Enterprise options are also shown. Urlbox pricing |
| Browserless Free | $0/month; 1,000 units/month | One unit is a block of browser time of up to 30 seconds per browser connection. Browserless pricing |
| Browserless Prototyping | $25/month, billed annually; 20,000 units/month | Longer-running automations use additional units; the pricing page also lists overage rates for paid tiers. Browserless pricing |
| Browserless Starter | $140/month, billed annually; 180,000 units/month | Longer-running automations use additional units; check current overage terms. Browserless pricing |
| Browserless Scale | $350/month, billed annually; 500,000 units/month | Longer-running automations use additional units; check current overage terms. Browserless pricing |
| Browserless Enterprise | Custom priced | Confirm terms directly on the current pricing page. Browserless pricing |
Estimate cost using the behavior of your workload, not a simple division of plan price by listed quota. Count successful renders or browser time according to the vendor’s meter, then account for retries, concurrency, typical session duration, and output requirements. For Browserless in particular, automations that exceed a 30-second unit can consume additional units. Check billing cycle, quota, and overage terms before purchase.

Implementation questions to settle before choosing
- Request shape: Urlbox supports URL or HTML rendering; Browserless’s screenshot REST endpoint accepts a URL or inline HTML with screenshot options. Confirm the parameters and response behavior in the current endpoint documentation.
- Sync or async delivery: Urlbox documents synchronous and asynchronous requests, webhooks, and secure render links. If the application needs a callback or delayed job, establish the exact lifecycle and failure handling before integrating.
- Browser control: If you need to navigate through multiple states or run existing automation code, evaluate Browserless’s managed browser connections. A screenshot endpoint alone may not express the whole workflow.
- Infrastructure: If network location, data residency, or self-hosting is mandatory, confirm deployment specifics directly. Browserless documents cloud and Docker self-hosting; the reviewed Urlbox product page uses enterprise and on-premise language, but operational terms require vendor confirmation.
- Failure policy: Define what the application should do on timeouts, missing selectors, blocked targets, or malformed responses. Set a bounded retry policy and avoid retrying permanent input errors indefinitely.
Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
The capture omits content loaded below the fold
Use a full-page capture and enable the documented lazy-loading behavior appropriate to the service: Urlbox’s stitch mode scrolls through the page, while Browserless documents scrollPage. Confirm that the target page actually loads the missing content after scrolling; a screenshot option cannot capture content the site never renders.
A sticky header appears multiple times or in the wrong position
Compare the output with and without the relevant full-page method. Urlbox’s stitch documentation says it freezes fixed and sticky elements, while its native mode has different trade-offs. For Browserless, inspect a representative output rather than assuming it treats sticky elements the same way.
The screenshot is blank or the request fails
Check the target URL, whether the page is publicly reachable from the chosen deployment, and whether the request or browser session has sufficient time to finish loading. Distinguish an endpoint or authentication error from a target-page load failure, and consult the service’s current response and error documentation. The reviewed sources do not establish a universal retry strategy or identical error codes for the two services.
An element screenshot does not contain the expected target
Verify that the CSS selector matches the rendered DOM and that the element exists at capture time. If it appears after a delay or interaction, use the relevant wait or browser-automation flow and handle the case where the element never appears.

Usage costs more than a render-count estimate suggested
For Browserless, compare actual browser connection time with the plan’s unit definition; longer-running automation uses more units. For either provider, include retries and the work needed to produce the required output in your estimate, then recheck current plan and overage terms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical decision rule
- Start with Urlbox if a rendering API, multiple documented output types, and its full-page stitch or native choices align with the task.
- Start with Browserless if screenshots sit inside a larger workflow that needs Puppeteer or Playwright connections or a documented self-hosting path.
- Evaluate ScreenshotNeo if you want a direct screenshot API with pre-capture removal of consent banners, popups, and chat widgets, and its documented outputs and controls meet your needs.
- For any of the three, decide using representative target pages, operational requirements, and the vendor’s current billing rules—not a presumed quality or cost winner.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in a single request. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the target URL with the page you need. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for authentication and request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo removes known cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed; cache hits are not billed either. Each response identifies the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
