Use the Urlbox API when bulk screenshots need to run repeatedly, without someone supervising a browser, or feed into an app or other workflow. Use a Chrome extension when you have an occasional list of URLs and want to capture it interactively in Chrome. The right choice depends on automation and integration—not on a proven speed or image-quality advantage: the available sources do not establish a head-to-head benchmark.
Choose by workflow, not by the word “bulk”
| What you need | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Occasionally capture a pasted list while working in Chrome | A batch screenshot extension | It can avoid API integration and keep the task inside the browser. Behavior depends on the extension; the Batch Screenshot listing describes sequential capture in a bound tab. |
| Run captures on a schedule or as part of an application | Urlbox API | Urlbox documents synchronous and asynchronous API workflows, polling or webhooks, and parallel rendering. |
| Capture a list once, but do not want to write code | Try a list-based browser workflow first | Urlbox also publishes resources about CSV and list workflows, while a Chrome extension may be more direct for an interactive Chrome session. Check the current instructions for the specific tool. |
| Need output to flow into storage, reporting, or another service | Urlbox API | An API can be incorporated into a process you control; it requires credentials and implementation work. |
These are workflow recommendations, not claims that one option is universally faster, more reliable, more private, or more accurate. The available material does not establish those comparisons.

What the Urlbox API offers for batch work
Urlbox documents two ways to submit captures: render links and JSON API requests. Its JSON API accepts POST requests and uses a bearer token with a secret key; render links can be signed. The API quickstart explains the request setup: Urlbox quickstart.

Asynchronous capture and parallel rendering
For work that should not hold a request open while pages render, Urlbox documents asynchronous jobs that can be polled or handled with webhooks. Its product page also describes rendering multiple screenshots in parallel. These features are useful when building a recurring or app-integrated workflow, but they do not establish a measured throughput advantage over any extension. See Urlbox API and the Urlbox documentation.

Full-page captures
Urlbox supports full-page screenshots and documents stitch and native modes. Urlbox describes stitch mode as prioritizing accuracy and native mode as prioritizing speed; those are vendor descriptions of the modes, not independent evidence of better results than an extension. Details are in the Urlbox screenshot documentation.
Implementation trade-off
An API gives you a foundation for integration and unattended processing, but someone must provision credentials, implement requests, handle results and failures, and maintain the integration. Signed render links may suit some workflows; a JSON API request is the documented option when sending POST requests with a bearer token. Consult the quickstart for current authentication and request details rather than exposing a secret key in client-side code.

What a Chrome batch extension offers
A Chrome extension can make sense if your job is an occasional list of URLs and you prefer an in-browser action over writing and maintaining an API integration. The Batch Screenshot Chrome Web Store listing says users can paste links, capture pages sequentially in a bound tab, name files automatically, and download a ZIP. It also advises keeping the tab open while the task runs. These details describe that listing only; extensions differ. Check the listing and developer terms for the extension you intend to use: Batch Screenshot in the Chrome Web Store.

Compare setup, control, and ongoing work
- Volume and cadence: A small, one-time list favors a simple interactive workflow. Repeated runs make automation more valuable.
- Human supervision: A browser workflow may depend on an open browser and a running tab. An API workflow can be incorporated into a process that runs without a person operating Chrome, once implemented.
- Integration: If screenshots must feed an app, report, storage destination, or downstream process, the API is the natural fit. An extension is centered on the browser workflow.
- Capture controls: Urlbox documents full-page modes. If you need a specific viewport, element, or rendering option, confirm that the particular API or extension supports it before choosing.
- Maintenance: Extensions reduce initial coding but may rely on a live browser session. An API requires initial engineering and continued handling of credentials, errors, and output.
- Evidence limits: The sources reviewed here do not support a general ranking for capture fidelity, privacy, reliability, or throughput.
Estimate Urlbox cost before committing
Urlbox’s pricing page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists these vendor-published plans. Prices exclude VAT. API renders count against the stated quota; the page says failed requests are not charged as successful renders. Plan limits, prices, and terms can change, so check the current Urlbox pricing page before making a decision.
| Urlbox plan | Published price | Published allowance or billing basis |
|---|---|---|
| Lo-Fi | $19/month | Up to 2,000 renders |
| Hi-Fi | $49/month | Up to 5,000 renders |
| Ultra | $99/month | Up to 15,000 renders |
| Business | $498/month | $495 base plus $3 per 1,000 renders |
| Enterprise | From $3,000/month | Quota not stated on the cited pricing page |
The pricing page also lists request-per-minute limits that vary by plan. Estimate your expected monthly successful renders and check the live limits and billing terms. The Chrome Web Store listing reviewed here does not provide an equivalent API render quota or pricing schedule, so do not assume that an extension is free or directly compare its cost with API pricing without checking its current terms.

ScreenshotNeo: an API alternative to try first
If you want an API rather than a Chrome-bound workflow, ScreenshotNeo is another option to consider. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its documented distinction is that cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; only clean shots are billed, while bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Responses include page-verdict and billing headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI-agent clients.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. - Choosing an extension for a hands-off recurring job: Check whether it can run without an open tab and human supervision. The cited Batch Screenshot listing says to keep its tab open during capture.
- Choosing an API for a one-off list without pricing the engineering: Credentials and implementation are part of the decision, not just the monthly plan.
- Assuming “parallel” means a proven speed win: Urlbox documents parallel rendering, but the available sources contain no comparative benchmark.
- Assuming all extensions work alike: The sequence, naming, download, and browser-session details cited here apply to one listing; verify the exact extension you plan to use.
- Comparing unlike cost models: Calculate expected API renders and inspect the extension’s current price and terms rather than treating a browser tool as automatically free.

Does the cited Chrome extension capture pages in parallel?
The Batch Screenshot listing reviewed here describes sequential capture in a bound tab, not parallel rendering.
Which is faster?
No comparative speed test is established by the available sources. Urlbox describes one of its full-page modes as prioritizing speed, but that is not a benchmark against an extension.
