How migration works
Free migration
For the free workflow, create the backup components on the source site, download them, and upload them to the destination site. UpdraftPlus’s FAQ describes this as “downloading the backups from the source site then uploading these to the destination.” Its built-in search-and-replace function updates site-location strings for the new location. How restoration works—and what it does not guarantee
The listing describes a restore workflow in which you select the components to restore, confirm the operation, and return to the main screen. Available components can include plugins, themes, and the database. This describes the plugin’s workflow; it is not a guarantee that every restore will succeed on every site or host. According to the plugin FAQ, a host short on resources can cause a backup to run out of time. UpdraftPlus may resume a backup, and the FAQ suggests reducing the ZIP split size in expert settings as a possible mitigation. It also acknowledges that the plugin has limits on a resource-starved server and suggests choosing a more reputable host when that is the cause. Security and release context
The WordPress.org changelog displayed version 1.26.8, dated 17 September 2026, and version 1.26.7, dated 21 August 2026. The 1.26.8 notes include a security item for a specific scenario involving a migrated site and saved credentials; the preceding entry describes a restoration nonce change.
