HomePod and HomePod mini update automatically by default. To check or install an update yourself, open the Home app on an up-to-date iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then go to More > Home Settings > Software Update. Select Update if one is offered, and keep the speaker plugged into power while it installs. Apple lists HomePod software version 27 as adding Apple Music AutoMix, improved AirPlay performance, bug fixes, and security updates.

How to update HomePod software manually

  1. Update the iPhone, iPad, or Mac you use to manage your home to the latest iOS, iPadOS, or macOS.
  2. Open the Home app.
  3. Choose More, then Home Settings.
  4. Tap Software Update.
  5. If an update appears, tap Update.
  6. Leave HomePod connected to power while it updates. A white spinning light on top indicates that an update is in progress.

If no update is offered, the Software Update screen shows whether HomePod is current and displays its installed software version. Apple’s instructions are at Update HomePod.
