On a supported Samsung Galaxy phone, you can run a second copy of WhatsApp through Samsung’s Dual Messenger feature. Open Settings > Advanced features > Dual Messenger, turn on the switch beside WhatsApp, and open the new copy to register a second account. The one requirement that cannot be skipped is a second phone number. Dual Messenger gives you a second app, not a second number.
Menus differ by model and Android version. If WhatsApp does not appear in your Dual Messenger list, your phone does not offer the feature in its current software state, and you will need one of the alternatives covered below.

What you need before you start
- A Samsung Galaxy phone whose Dual Messenger list includes WhatsApp. Samsung says the feature depends on the device and the Android version, so check the list instead of assuming it is there.
- A phone number that is separate from the one your main WhatsApp account uses, and that can receive a verification message.
- WhatsApp installed from Google Play. Samsung’s UK guidance on getting WhatsApp on a Galaxy device describes installation through Google Play (Samsung UK Support, updated 2025-09-29).
- No new phone, cable, charger or third-party app-cloning utility. The documented procedure uses only the phone’s built-in settings and WhatsApp’s own registration.
Set up the second WhatsApp
- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features.
- Tap Dual Messenger. Only apps that Samsung supports for this feature appear in the list. Samsung’s overview is on its Japan support page, last updated 2025-04-08.
- Turn on the switch beside WhatsApp, accept the prompt, and wait for the second copy to install.
- Find the second WhatsApp icon, which carries a Dual Messenger badge, and open it.
- Enter the separate phone number, then enter the six-digit verification code WhatsApp sends to that number. Samsung’s UK guidance describes this phone-number and six-digit-code process for ordinary setup.
Samsung’s Japan page lists WhatsApp among the apps it supports for Dual Messenger. Treat that as confirmation that the app is eligible on compatible models, not as a guarantee that every Galaxy shows it.

- Confirm your model and Android version against Samsung’s support pages for your region. The Japan page states that availability varies by device and Android version.
- Install any pending software update, then open the Dual Messenger list again.
- Do not install an unofficial cloning tool to get around the missing option. Such a tool sits outside the documented route, and the sources do not establish that it is safe to use with a messaging account.

If your Dual Messenger list includes WhatsApp, that is the simplest route. If it does not, WhatsApp’s own account-switching feature is the next option to check, because it does not depend on the Samsung list. Secure Folder is useful if you want the second copy kept inside a protected area, but it does not change how the account itself is registered.

Phone numbers and SIM slots
Samsung says two separate accounts require two phone numbers. WhatsApp ties each account to its registered number rather than to a particular SIM slot, so a second number does not mean your phone needs two physical SIM slots.
Common ways to obtain the number include:
- A prepaid SIM from a mobile carrier or prepaid-number provider. Pricing and availability vary by country, and this article does not verify any particular seller.
- An eSIM or service option from your carrier, where it is offered in your country.
Privacy, data and removal
What the second copy changes
Dual Messenger keeps a separate app instance for account use. The Samsung and WhatsApp sources cited here do not establish any change to WhatsApp’s privacy or encryption behaviour, so do not assume the second copy is more or less private than the original. Samsung also warns that some app features may be limited in the second copy.

Removing either copy
Samsung’s Galaxy S23 FE user manual, published 2024-04-17 and specific to that model, states two things. Uninstalling the second copy deletes its data, and uninstalling the original app also removes the second copy. The manual’s wording applies to that model and software version, so check the manual for your own device.

If you need to keep chat history, check WhatsApp’s current backup instructions before removing either copy. The Samsung warning does not say what will be preserved, so do not rely on it as a backup guarantee.

How current these steps are
- Samsung Japan’s Dual Messenger overview was updated 2025-04-08.
- Samsung UK’s WhatsApp installation guidance was updated 2025-09-29.
- Samsung Australia’s Secure Folder setup page was updated 2026-08-10.
- WhatsApp’s Help Center pages on multiple accounts and account switching show no publication date, so menu names and placement may have changed. Confirm them in the app you have installed.
Samsung’s pages describe the feature as dependent on device and software, so the menu path above is a starting point. If the labels on your phone differ, look for Dual Messenger under Advanced features and follow the on-screen prompts.
