Most Samsung Galaxy Buds models can pair with an iPad over Bluetooth for music and calls. Samsung’s current US compatibility page does not list iPad as a supported platform, though, and only two Galaxy Buds models are named for its iOS app. Bluetooth pairing and full app support are two different things, and the difference determines what you get on an iPad.
Bluetooth pairing versus app support
Samsung’s general setup guidance says Galaxy Buds can connect to other Bluetooth devices for streaming audio and taking calls. The iPad uses the same standard Bluetooth accessory pairing flow Apple describes for any accessory, so a Galaxy Buds model that is in pairing mode should appear in the iPad’s device list. That is the basic layer of compatibility.

The second layer is Samsung’s own companion app. On iOS, Samsung’s Buds app is the only route to battery readouts, equalizer and touchpad settings, find-my-earbuds, and software updates. Whether a given model gets that layer depends on the model, and that is where iPad owners run into limits.

Samsung’s model list for iOS names two Galaxy Buds models for its Buds app: the Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Buds Live. Samsung’s app listing gives iPhone 7 or later with iOS 10 or later as its compatibility requirement. The other models are listed as Bluetooth-only for iOS. The table below sets out the split, based on Samsung’s model list and setup materials as they stood in the sources reviewed (Samsung’s US compatibility page and app listing; the Galaxy Buds4 feature chart is dated February 19, 2026).

Put your earbuds into pairing mode
Pairing mode differs by generation, so start by identifying your model. Samsung gives separate steps for each group below.
Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro
- Place both earbuds in the case.
- Close the lid, then reopen it.
- Press and hold the Connect button on the case for three seconds.
Galaxy Buds2 and Buds2 Pro
- Keep both earbuds in the case.
- Hold both touchpads until the lights flash.
Original Galaxy Buds, Buds+, Buds Live, and Buds Pro
- Wear the earbuds.
- Hold both touchpads until pairing mode begins.
Connect the earbuds to an iPad
Once the earbuds are in pairing mode, use the iPad’s standard Bluetooth flow:

- Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on.
- Wait for the Galaxy Buds to appear under the device list, then tap them.
- Keep the earbuds and iPad close together during pairing. Apple’s guidance is that the accessory should be in discovery mode and within about 10 metres of the iPad.
Apple’s iPad guide puts the requirement this way: “Put your Bluetooth accessory in discovery mode.” (Apple Support, Connect iPad to Bluetooth accessories.)
What you lose without the Samsung app
On a Bluetooth-only model, the iPad gets the core listening experience: standard audio, calls, and the touchpad controls Samsung lists for that category. What it does not get depends on the model, but the Galaxy Buds4 feature chart is the clearest example. For Buds4 on other Bluetooth devices, including iOS, that chart shows no firmware updates and no touch-control customization. Some additional features are only available after enabling them through the Wear app on Android.

For Galaxy Buds+ and Buds Live, the iOS app restores battery status, equalizer control, touchpad settings, find-my-earbuds, and software updates. Those are the reasons to check whether your model is one of the two named models before buying with iPad use in mind.
Whether the Samsung app runs on iPad
This is the part the sources do not settle. Samsung’s current support page says iPads are not supported. Samsung’s App Store listing centers on iPhone requirements (iPhone 7 or later, iOS 10 or later). An older developer response said some iPads can run the app in a scaled mode, but that was not tied to a current iPad model and does not override Samsung’s current statement.

If you need the Buds app on an iPad, open the App Store listing on that iPad and read its compatibility section before relying on it. If the listing does not name your iPad model, assume the app is iPhone-only.

Troubleshooting a failed connection
- Earbuds don’t appear in the iPad list: If they are still connected to another device, Samsung advises putting them back into pairing mode using the steps above.
- Trouble switching from another device: Samsung suggests turning Bluetooth off on the first device before connecting to the iPad.
- Earbuds drop out during use: Keep the iPad within about 10 metres of the earbuds, the same range Apple gives for pairing.
Samsung’s pairing and feature details are model-specific, so confirm your exact model on Samsung’s own support pages before you purchase or troubleshoot.
