“Bookmarked here for unread messages” most likely describes an unread-message marker tied to a conversation, not a web page you saved. Samsung’s own documentation does not define this exact phrase, so the explanation below rests on user reports and one secondary troubleshooting article rather than an official Samsung description.
What the phrase most likely means
Samsung Galaxy users have reported seeing the phrase “Bookmarked here for unread messages” in connection with text messages. A Reddit discussion from October 29, 2019 raised the question after a user noticed the label following a device update. The replies in that thread are anecdotal and speculative, and none of them is an official Samsung answer.

A 2023 troubleshooting article from KrispiTech reads the label the same way: as a marker that a conversation contains unread messages, with a section on why it sometimes persists. That article is secondary guidance and is not confirmed by Samsung, so treat its explanation as the most plausible reading rather than a documented feature.
Why it is probably not a browser bookmark
The word “bookmark” causes most of the confusion. In Samsung’s manual content for Messages, the app is described as the place to send and receive SMS and MMS. Separately, the manual describes Samsung Internet bookmarks as saved web-page addresses. Nothing in that material links the Messages app to Internet bookmarks, which is why the label is best read as a messaging indicator. The manual does not, however, explain this specific label, so the distinction is an inference from how the features are documented.

If the marker appears inside a messaging conversation rather than in Samsung Internet, it is probably part of the messaging interface. If it appears only in the browser and you never saved a page, check your bookmark list in Samsung Internet before assuming it is the same thing.

Because the sources do not establish a universal fix, start with the simplest checks and record what you see at each step.

- Open the Messages app and go to the conversation where the label appears. Confirm whether that thread has any messages you have not yet read.
- Open and read every unread message in that thread, including messages from group conversations or senders you rarely hear from.
- Return to the conversation list and check whether the marker is still attached to that thread.
- If the marker is still there, note the Galaxy model, the Android version, and the messaging app you used. Behavior may differ between models, software versions and apps, and the available sources do not settle which combinations are affected.
Reading the messages does not guarantee the marker will clear. Persistence has been discussed in secondary guidance, but no authoritative cause has been published for this exact label.
What not to do
- Do not disable system components based on forum advice. A Reddit commenter suggested turning off “Bookmark Provider.” That suggestion is unverified, and disabling a system component can affect other features.
- Do not assume Samsung has documented the marker. The manual content hosted on device.report is attributed to Samsung Electronics, but that hosting page is not Samsung’s own support site, and it does not describe this label.
- Do not clear browser bookmarks to fix a messaging indicator. The evidence does not connect the two features.
When to seek model-specific support
If the marker remains after you have read every message in the thread, contact Samsung support with the exact wording of the label, your Galaxy model number, your Android version and the messaging app you use. Those details let support check whether the behavior is tied to a particular update or app version, which general articles cannot determine.
