These are different flavors of action-adventure, not a quality ranking. One critic’s 2016 comparison in TIME’s Uncharted 4 review distinguished older Tomb Raider’s jump-mastery from Uncharted’s set pieces, navigation, scenery and gunplay. That is a useful preference test, not a universal verdict.

How their gameplay and tone differ
Uncharted: character interplay and cinematic momentum
Uncharted is a natural fit if you want the adventure to move like an action film: characters banter and react to one another while the story carries you through discoveries, chases and combat. PlayStation’s franchise overview frames it as a cinematic series with a complex ensemble. Expect action and traversal to share the spotlight; it is not primarily a puzzle-box built around tombs.
Tomb Raider: exploration, tombs and changing eras
Tomb Raider is the better match if investigating spaces, finding routes through ruins and solving environmental puzzles are central to the appeal. Its history includes markedly different eras, so the 2013 reboot’s survival-oriented origin story should not be treated as the definitive version of every game. The upcoming Legacy of Atlantis announcement foregrounds exploration, combat and puzzles, but that description is a publisher’s announcement rather than evidence about the complete game.

Where should you start?
For Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection brings together the remastered single-player campaigns of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. PlayStation lists it for PS5 and references a PC edition. These are later adventures, and character histories carry across the series, so the collection is a convenient modern entry point rather than a complete account of Nathan Drake’s story.
For Tomb Raider: choose an era deliberately
Tomb Raider (2013) is the clearest starting recommendation if you want the Survivor-era reboot: it begins with a younger Lara and a grounded origin story. If you are more interested in the older games’ platforming and tomb-focused challenge, look for a classic-era entry instead; the reboot’s tone and priorities will not necessarily match what you want.

What about the next Tomb Raider games?
As of October 4, 2026, the announced next releases are not available to play. The official Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis announcement sets its release for February 12, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2. It describes rebuilt environments alongside exploration, combat and puzzles; those are announced features, not a verdict on the finished game.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst is planned for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Amazon’s announcement coverage identifies Northern India as its setting. Treat these dates and platforms as announced plans, not current availability.
