Yet both teams’ coaches stressed preparation over the standings: Minnesota was preparing for a “good, young team,” and Miami saw its difficult opening schedule as experience for younger players. The game was scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
When and where was Vikings–Dolphins?
The Minnesota Vikings’ official game center listed kickoff for 3:05 p.m. CDT on Sunday, Oct. 4, at U.S. Bank Stadium, with FOX as the broadcast listing. These are pregame schedule details; they do not establish the game’s eventual result.

How did the teams enter Week 4?
In its Oct. 1, 2026 preview, Field Level Media reported Minnesota’s 3-0 start included wins over Green Bay, Chicago and Tampa Bay. Miami was 0-3 after losses to Las Vegas, San Francisco and Kansas City. The report described the Vikings as one of five remaining unbeaten teams at that point. Those records and the five-team count are a snapshot from before Week 4, not a later-season assessment.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said, “I know for us, our record means absolutely nothing to us, and we’re preparing accordingly for a good, young team.” Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley, discussing Miami’s demanding opening slate, said, “We’re playing really good teams; it makes it challenging,” and said the schedule gave younger players experience against strong opponents. Both remarks were reported by Field Level Media on Oct. 1.

What did the early-season numbers suggest?
Field Level Media’s Oct. 1 preview reported a marked difference in pass-rush production through each team’s first three games:
| Measure | Minnesota | Miami |
|---|---|---|
| Sacks through first three games, as reported Oct. 1, 2026 | 14 | 0 |
The same report credited Vikings edge rusher Dallas Turner with 3.5 sacks over that early-season span. These figures describe the first three games only; they are not full-season totals.

For Miami quarterback Malik Willis, Field Level Media reported a 57% completion rate, 627 passing yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a 74.1 passer rating before Week 4. Those are likewise preview-time figures for the opening three games, not a forecast of his performance against Minnesota.

Who was unavailable for Week 4?
The official NFL Week 4 injury report listed Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson as out, replacing the uncertainty described in the Oct. 1 preview after he left the previous game with an ankle sprain and missed Wednesday’s practice. The NFL report also listed Minnesota cornerback Charles Demmings and punter Brett Thorson as out. For Miami, linebacker Robert Beal Jr., wide receiver Caleb Douglas and cornerback Storm Duck were listed out.

Field Level Media’s Oct. 1 preview said Kyler Murray was expected to make his second consecutive start for Minnesota after returning from injury, with Carson Wentz as backup. It also said Willis was due to make his fourth start for Miami. Those are the preview’s descriptions of the expected quarterback plans; the injury report is the source for the official out designations.

The records alone do not settle that question. Minnesota’s unbeaten start and its reported 14 sacks through three games were meaningful early indicators, but the Vikings were also without Jefferson, officially listed out. Miami arrived with an 0-3 record and no sacks in the first three games according to the preview, while its coach pointed to the caliber of its opponents and the experience younger players were gaining. The available pregame information supports a matchup between teams with sharply different starts, not a claim that either result was assured.
